I’m mad that about 1 in 1,000 black men will be killed in police encounters during their lifetime. I’m mad that my black friends live in a much more dangerous world than I do. We need to change. I’m still mad. I’m mad that it has become difficult to separate the protestors from those taking advantage of the protests to destroy cities. I’m mad that about 1 in 300 police officers will be killed in police encounters during a 20-year career. I’m mad that the actions of a few speak louder than the actions of the many...on all sides. We need to change. I’m still mad. I’m mad that it’s always “us” vs. “them”. I’m mad that families of protestors have to worry about their loved ones making it home safe tonight, whether they are black, white, or any shade of color in between. I’m mad that families of police officers have to worry about the same thing, whether they are black, white, or any shade of color in between. We need to change. Finally, I’m mad that there is not a clear solution. Yes, this is a police problem. Yes, this is a white person problem. It is also a human problem. As humans, we control very little in life.
