What is your favorite trail system in Big Bear Lake? For us, its the #RathbunCreekTrail (we may be a bit biased) because it will eventually extend throughout the whole City - connecting us to all parts of our beautiful community! Construction on the next phase of the trail will begin soon - a newly paved additional 1,100 linear feet segment that runs along Rathbun Creek (from Elm Street to the Best Western) all the way to Sizzler. Once Complete, bicyclists and pedestrians will be able to travel on a dedicated asphalt path all the way from the Moonridge Commercial area to Big Bear Boulevard. Eventually, the Rathbun Creek trail will connect with another new trail along Sandalwood Drive and Big Bear Boulevard (between Sandalwood and Stanfield Cutoff) that will be constructed in spring 2021, a new bicycle and pedestrian trail along Stanfield Cutoff that is currently under construction and will be complete in the coming weeks, and the existing Alpine Pedal Path on the North Shore. - @citybigbearlake on Instagram

*Ride tips* ... One of the biggest factors in finishing the Mammoth Gran Fondo with a broad smile or dragging yourself over the line is a nutrition plan. Thankfully we have partner @bonk_breaker to help keep everyone fueled and hydrated throughout the day!Here are three tips to stay fueled ... 1 - Drink early and often: Dont let chilly temperatures at the start fool you into thinking you dont need to drink from the very beginning. Shoot to consume at least 16 oz of fluid each hour in the first couple of hours, and up it as temps increase. Be sure to use an electrolyte/carbohydrate drink such as Bonk Breaker Real Hydration Mix to ensure sodium and potassium levels dont decrease from sweat loss ... 2 - Eat now for later: With only around 2,000 calories worth of muscle glycogen stored in the body, its essential to eat consistently from start until finish. Aim for ~250 calories every hour, which can come from a mix of solid food and fluids. A Bonk Breaker Banana Cream Bar and bottle with Wolfberry Real Hydration Mix is just about spot on ... 3 - Keep rolling: Try to eat and drink in small amounts consistently rather than saving all your calorie loading for rest stops. Youll feel worse by taking long stops and consuming a lot of calories at once. A good tip is to set a timer on watch or cycling computer for every 15 minutes as a reminder to eat and drink so you can finish with a smile ... Just a few weeks away from the big day. Human-powered remote overland travel is my favorite way to experience the world. I’ve never considered doing this type of riding alone until a couple weeks ago when I was unable to secure a partner for a route that my heart and head were set on. My intention was to traverse the state of AK using the Dalton and Parks Highways to move from the Arctic Ocean to the Gulf of Alaska. I settled for a solo effort but was apprehensive about servicing my bike through the calcium chloride mud that is notorious in the North Slope section of the route. On Monday I arrived in Deadhorse, a tiny industrial town on the Arctic Ocean, assembled my bike in the airport, and by 11am was headed south towards my home in Anchorage. Only 850 miles between me and my bed. Deadhorse was 40 degrees and raining when I departed and I was overcome with the feeling that I had made a mistake. My thoughts were consumed by fear of grizzly bears, bike failure, or food and water shortages, but I continued riding, observing my headspace without reacting to it. The desolate landscape of the North Slope was unsettling, but within 150 miles I was comforted by the mountainous terrain of the Brooks Range... an environment that feels like home to me. On the third day I arrived in Yukon Crossing for fresh spring water, a salmon burger, garden-fresh zucchini, and the internet. I filled my backpack and bottles and continued south. On Friday afternoon I arrived at my hotel in Fairbanks, which was ~500 miles from the start. After a good night’s sleep and an evaluation of my priorities, I decided to end the trip and save the 350 miles of pavement for another time. One appealing part of any significant physical endeavor is the epiphany moment where you solve complex problems or make realizations about the trajectory of your life. What came to me is this: I wanted to take cycling in a direction and solo riding across great distances isn’t the direction I’m headed. Within the context of a race, which is a shared experience, it’s incredible. But solo travel will never be my preference. Land is beautiful and bikes are fun but my life is to be spent with people and I’ll end this trip report with that. ❤ - @rachelcheath on Instagram

We sure saw a lot our visit to the ID! Here were some of our biggest takeaways. On our visit, we saw mostly older people. Most of them were coming to or from work, grocery shopping, or running errands. We did not see any families, but we went at around 10 a.m. on a Tuesday, meaning that the children would be in school. The majority of people that we saw were of Asian ethnicity, and on the older side. The neighborhood itself seemed to be an area of working-class or retired people. Besides school being in session, the time we chose might have also influenced our visit by what was open that early in the morning. Many of the restaurants and stores were close, so we only saw a very small portion of the population. The main commercial activity in the international District can be found in restaurants. There are some small clothing stores and stores with trinkets and necessities, but the majority are restaurants. Since the ID is hot spot for Asian food, these businesses are frequented by people from all over the greater Seattle area, locals, and tourists. These businesses are mainly family owned and operated; very few chain restaurants and stores can be found here. There are a lot of high-rise/apartment buildings in the international district. Space is limited, so there are few single-family homes or houses. The occupants of these residencies are mainly families or elderly couples. There is a very nice park in the center of the ID, as well as a community center. There are many, very distinct landmarks in the ID. Many of the street posts have man-sized, very colorful dragons. There is also a very large gate at the entrance of the ID, which is ornately decorated in a traditional oriental style. Those are our observations ! - @internationaldistrict206 on Instagram

Looks of concern and words of encouragement are the polarized reactions I get cruising around with V 🤣 I get it. It looks like a lot of exposure on a front mounted bike seat but I honestly don’t think the risk is greater than a rear bike seat. Plus, I feel like it’s a way better experience! Normally I load Nate up with the gear and kids, but this option has been so incredibly empowering for me! I get to show V the trails, trust my own abilities, and hearing her say “Go, go, go” and “Faster mama, faster” makes my heart melt. I’ve bought a few seats over the years (Thule, iBert) only to use them with an old beater bike because they didn’t work with my dropper post. Now I can finally use MY bike! Plus, I LOVE not having to haul the trailer everywhere!!! 10 Years of Half Nelson - A Chance to Give Back! Half Nelson is a signature trail in Squamish, the result of efforts from amazing local volunteers, sponsors, and local builder Dream Wizards. A big thank you to SORCA funders, including the BC Rural Dividend Fund, who have contributed a great deal towards the trails maintenance in the past two years. The coaches of @womeninthemountains love their @kuatracks! Coach Shelly’s favorite feature is the foot pedal. She frequently lowers the rack, (even with bikes on it!) to access her coaching supplies. Coach @ericatingey frequently transports clients bikes to and from trailheads. The adjustability of the front wheel tray makes it so she can carry bikes of varying sizes, or even all the exact same size. The lowering of the front wheel makes it so the bars aren’t the same height, thus the brake levers don’t get tangled. Genius on the part of @kuatracks! - @kuatracks on Instagram
