Quite literally one of my favorite weapons in the collection...the Kimber Aegis Elite Custom. Chambered in .45 ACP, she not only is an elegant piece of art, but a nail driver as well. I have been and will continue to be a huge Kimber fan over the decades. I’ve seen the company go through ups and downs, but their weapons have never failed to perform flawlessly. A little history on the origins of the Kimber brand: “Kimber was founded as Kimber of Oregon in 1979 by Jack Warne and his son Greg Warne in the small town of Clackamas, Oregon. An Australian, Jack Warne moved to Oregon in 1968 after Portland-based Omark Industries purchased the Australian firearms manufacturer, Sporting Arms (or Sportco), he had founded in Adelaide, South Australia, following World War II. Following its founding, Kimber of Oregon, which quickly built a reputation for accurate .22 long rifle caliber rifles, began to expand its product line and eventually acquired a second manufacturing plant in nearby Colton. This is Morris Okot, a Nutrition Specialist for @unicef South Sudan and a hero to countless children he has helped on the frontlines of some of the most remote and hard to reach places on the planet. Although he faces adversity on a daily basis, he always wears a big, warm and inviting smile that matches his unbreakable spirit. He never gives up until the job is done. A friend of mine at UNICEF took two videographers along with him to follow Morris on one of UNICEF’s most dangerous missions, a ‘Rapid Response Mechanism’ mission in South Sudan. Led by Morris, they were dropped into an area in the bush that is only accessible by supply helicopters, to set up lifesaving interventions for children and families in the surrounding ‘Fayams’ (villages/districts). Due to dangerous and unpredictable conditions, they have a limited window to get the job done before being extracted again by Helicopter and taken to the next village. These highly skilled SWAT-like A-Team of emergency responders, sacrifice a majority of their year to do this work. This was Morris’ 16th mission in 2019 alone. In 2018, UNICEF undertook 77 Rapid Response Missions to 39 countries and delivered a total of 2,557 days of aid. I chose to draw this photo of Morris because in the times we find ourselves in today, it is important to know there are real heroes out there that deserve our attention and our support. Always, act. ❗️If you’re mid run and there’s a man down on the trail or on the side of the trial hurt don’t go any closer. I know it sounds heartless, but it’s not worth risking your own safety. You can help by calling 911 or waiting for someone else if you’re really worried. However, if you have the slightest weird feeling TURN AROUND AND RUN. Then call and report it when you’re safe. ❗️If a potential threat is looking at or about to pass you make and remain eye contact. This lets him know you see him, YOU control your space and you’re not easily intimidated. It also sends the message you’ll be able to give a full description to police if needed. Predators are afraid of two things 1. getting caught and 2. getting hurt ❗️If a potential threat approaches you DON’T BE POLITE. ❗️Being LOUD will get them caught. So SCREAM “STOP!” “LEAVE ME ALONE!” “BACK OFF!” Screaming is the verbal way of telling them you’re not a soft target and that you’ll physically fight back if they came any closer. ❗️DO whatever you can to make a lot of noise. The Second Amendment Absolutely, Positively Protects Magazines That Hold More Than 10 Rounds! A few weeks ago, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals released a 2-1 panel decision affirming (agreeing with) the district court’s judgment that held as constitutional the State of New Jersey’s ban on ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, sometimes called “large-capacity” magazines by anti-Second Amendment politicians. Judge Matey’s dissent from the panel decision agreed with FPC’s position that the proper analysis to undertake for cases involving the Second Amendment is one that looks to the Constitution’s very text, informed by history and tradition. The attorneys for the plaintiffs in that case subsequently filed a petition for an en banc rehearing, requesting that the full Third Circuit court reconsider the case. This week, Firearms Policy Coalition filed an important law and history brief in support of the petition for rehearing en banc. FPC’s brief was authored by FPC Director of Research Joseph Greenlee, a published scholar of constitutional and firearms law history, as well as Second Amendment scholars David Kopel of Independence Institute and University of Wyoming law professor George Mocsary. Multicampeão pelo Cruzeiro, Deivid retorna ao Clube como Diretor Técnico de Futebol. Artilheiro, campeão da Tríplice Coroa como atleta e com trabalhos desenvolvidos no Clube como auxiliar técnico e treinador da equipe principal, Deivid está de volta ao Cruzeiro para atuar como Diretor Técnico de Futebol. O profissional é um dos primeiros reforços anunciados pelo Presidente Sérgio Santos Rodrigues que farão parte da equipe de trabalho para a retomada da instituição. “Vi a oportunidade de voltar ao Cruzeiro não como um convite, mas como uma convocação. Me identifiquei muito com o Clube desde que cheguei pela primeira vez e pude construir aqui uma história vitoriosa. Por tudo o que aconteceu com o Clube nos últimos anos, é uma grande responsabilidade mas também uma grande honra poder contribuir com meu trabalho para levar o Cruzeiro ao seu devido lugar, que é disputando títulos e sendo uma referência positiva de administração”, declara. Para exercer a função, Deivid se capacitou com a experiência acumulada em anos nos campos do Brasil e internacionais, mas também com muito estudo. O Diretor Executivo é formado no curso de Gestão Executiva de Futebol, pela Business Futebol Clube, e também possui a Licença A da CBF Academy, para treinadores profissionais. No trabalho que será desenvolvido no Cruzeiro, o profissional será uma estratégica peça no Departamento de Futebol. “Venho para contribuir com o futebol do Cruzeiro. Juntamente com o Ricardo Drubskcy, atuarei na gestão do departamento. Serei responsável por fazer a conexão entre os atletas, comissão técnica e a diretoria, acompanhar o trabalho da análise de desempenho e aprimorar a transição dos atletas das categorias de base para o time principal. A intenção é fortalecer a equipe com as características de jogo que fizeram o Cruzeiro ter suas glórias e tradição”, explica o profissional, que já está em Belo Horizonte e nesta semana inicia o novo desafio.
