The Forbidden City, located in Beijing, is the palatial heart of China. Constructed in 1420, during the early Ming Dynasty, it is Chinas best-preserved imperial palace. The largest imperial palace in the world took about 14 years to build by approximately 1 million workers, which included 100000 craftsmen. It has 980 buildings in over 70 palace compounds, with over 8,700 rooms. It is 961 meters long from south to north and 753 meters wide. This palace was home to 14 emperors of the Ming dynasty and 10 of the Qing dynasty. * In ancient times, the emperor was believed to be a son of Heaven and therefore supreme power of Heaven was said to be bestowed upon him. Thus the residence of the celestial emperor was considered divine and certainly forbidden to ordinary people. The palace premises was accessible strictly by the families and servants of the emperors, while the commoners were forbidden. SriRangam, A southern India island town located on the banks of the river Kaveri has a famous temple of Sri Ranganathaswamy , also known as Thiruvaranga Tirupati, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Constructed in Dravidian style of architecture, it is largest functioning temple complex in the world with its Sapta-Prakaram formation, a temple centred settlement pattern that comprises of Sapta (seven) concentric rectangular enclosures or prakarams formed by thick and huge rampart walls that run round the sanctum sanctorum in which the deity presides. While the inner five enclosures of the complex constitute the temple, the outer two enclosures function as the settlement. Thus, the distinction between the temple and the settlement gets blurred and the temple is also referred to as Srirangam many a times. The temple complex is 156 acres in extent. The temple complex is embellished with 21 Gopurams. The 236 feet high, 13 storeyed Rajagopuram is the largest gopuram in Asia. Evidences prove the origin of the temple in 1st century CE during the Sangam period (3rd Century BCE – 45th Century E). More importantly, it is not just a temple but a temple-town, unique in its Sapta-Prakaram formation, a temple centred settlement pattern that comprises of Sapta (seven) concentric rectangular enclosures or prakarams formed by thick and huge rampart walls that run round the sanctum sanctorum in which the deity presides. While the inner five enclosures of the complex constitute the temple, the outer two enclosures function as the settlement. Thus, the distinction between the temple and the settlement gets blurred and the temple is also referred to as Srirangam many a times. - [Theory] In Architecture there seems to be a looming debate on the use of Ornament. I would argue if used, take it to the extreme. Chiang Rais White Temple is an excellent axample of this and I highly recommend visiting it if you happen to be in Thailand.
- Nagarjuna means Noble Serpent. The legend is that his teachings were given to him by snake-like beings called nagas that came out of the bottom of the sea. The story is that the Buddha, during his life, had given the teachings to these beings for safekeeping until the world was ready.

Sometimes I forget that, yes, I do know how to paint. I spend so much time working on pin or product art that I feel like I don’t give as much attention or time to more serious art anymore like I used to - and have mainly just been doing sketches or black inked work. So I really want to start painting more frequently again and posting non product designs. To get back into the swing of things, I used a homework assignment from an art discord I’m in to get my creative juices going. The assignment was based on Architecture and I had SO much fun working on this. . Since this was an assignment and done for practice, I tried to illustrate everything as close to my references as possible (second slide has my references along with some detailed shots). It felt pretty liberating to work on some background / scenery since I mainly only post portraits. I think I got everything really close to my references while still putting my own spin on it - mainly in the atmosphere. I really love this and am so happy I did it. . I plan to do more studies like this in the future. Would anybody be interested in work in progress / process videos and posts of things like this? If so, I can look into recording software for my desktop. . Also, I’m sorry for being so quiet lately guys. I have been so busy with both my day job and my shop that I have been in super focused work mode. I am going to try and get to my Tellonym questions either later tonight or tomorrow. I meant to get to them on Sunday, however I received really bad news about a friend passing away and really just needed to detach for a bit. Now that things are caught up and slowing down I can get back to them.
