There has been time for reflection, time to do all those little tasks which never get done. There has been saved time, no evenings out & commuting. So much less to-ing & fro-ing & running from one appointment to another. Instead of all that, there has been time as never before to enjoy our incredibly beautiful spring & early summer. It was built by the WPA, as you can see from the second photo, in 1938. 12+ miles on the Buckeye Trail yesterday north of Jaite and into the Brecksville Reservation. Went up old Parkview Road and onto some unmaintained bridal trails. Visited the rock pile again and hiked about a half mile upstream above it into a beautiful ravine. Forest name: Battery Creek Location: South Gippsland, Victoria Between 1999 and 2009 we planted more than 90,000 native trees at Battery Creek to establish a biodiverse forest. It has now become a haven for native birds and wildlife such as kangaroos, wallabies and wombats. In 2013 an insect was also discovered living in the trees at Battery Creek. Officially named a Bog Gum Psyllid (Ctenarytaina bipartite) these tiny cicada like insects are found only in this forest and feed on the juvenile leaves of Bog Gum (Eucalyptus kitsoniana). 🇬🇧Yes, the forest is closed! Yes the police enforces the ban with hefty fines! Yes its not easy for all of us passionate about this place....but lets all look at the bright side of life. Easter had become the busiest time of the year in terms of climbing: some car parks got transformed into dump or smelly campsites, some bouldering areas were looking like attractions parks with drones, radio, queues. More and more erosion, more and more broken holds, more and more “i take” and less and less “ i give back to nature”. Yes, this rest will also benefit the forest, all those migratory birds will come back and reproduce a lot, maybe some new species will choose to stay here, grass, flowers wont be thread on and sone eroded paths will go back to nature. If we think about what we miss, how can we offer something to what is coming. ........ 🇫🇷Oui, la forêt est fermée! Oui la police met des amendes. Il est temps de regarder les choses positivement et de mettre nos regrets de côté. Oui c’est dur. Pensons à tout ce que ce calme va apporter a la forêt: plus d’oiseaux, des chemins revegetalisés, des animaux heureux et peut-être de nouvelles espèces choisissant de s’y installer. Das Jugenderholungszentrum, Teil 1 (10 Bilder 📸): Dieses Gebäude wurde 1928/29 als Jugenderholungszentrum errichtet. Es verfügt über einen großen Saal mit Bühne, mehrerer Räume die für Schulungen benutzt wurden, Unterkunftszimmern sowie Wirtschaftsgebäude mit Küche und Wäscherei und einem Aussichtsturm. Der Komplex befindet sich in bester Lage im Gebirge, man hat einen tollen Ausblick. Zu Reichszeiten wurde das Gebäude vom BDM genutzt, zu DDR-Zeiten als Parteischule. Nach 1990 wollte ein Investor ein Hotel daraus machen, daraus wurde jedoch nichts, die Gebäude verfallen seitdem. It’s been exactly a month since we moved here. It’s both stretched on and on, and also happened all at once. We haven’t really left the property the entire time (except for my daily walk today the marina), and it’s the first time I’ve watched spring unfold day by day at the house. I know the order of the blooming flowers and trees. Daffodil. Forsythia. Hyacinth. Peach tree. Bleeding Heart. Apple tree. Lilac. Dogwood. Azalea. I know what time the deer come down their paths at dusk. And when the fox screams early morning. The mountains across the river turn red each day at 4pm and I’m up every morning just before 7. I visited one of my new favorite places in Maine recently: Swan Island on the Kennebec River. I was the only one on the ferry when it departed from Richmond for the super quick (like 3 minutes quick) ride to the island. When we pulled up I asked the ranger how many campers and day trippers were on the island currently and he responded with “You’re it!” Every horror movie scenario ran through my head immediately as I stammered “Ohhh, haha really? Neat 😐” But obviously I’m not writing this from beyond the grave, and I’ve got to say, that day was one of the best I’ve had in a while. I walked for a long time through the wooded trails and open fields, saw a ton of wildlife, snapped pictures of the old buildings (like the one pictured here) and cemeteries that still remain from the island’s period as Perkins Township, and ate lunch next to the river while eagles flew close by. No joke, there are a ton of eagles around there! Basically what I’m saying is if you’ve got some free time coming up, go check out this incredible place. - @northern_vernacular on Instagram

Suntaks gamla kyrka ligger i Tidaholms kommun i Skara stift. Kyrkan anses vara en av Sveriges bäst bevarade romanska kyrkor och har en exteriör som är typisk för medeltida kyrkor- Ett rektangulärt långhus och ett smalare och längre kor mot öster och vid korgaveln en rundad absid. Byggnaden uppfördes omkring mitten av 1100-talet av putsad sandsten och kalksten i relativt jämna och tjocka skift. Den breda och korta planbildningen tyder på sydlig påverkan, medan den trånga triumfbågen och det kraftiga takfallet talar för engelsk influens. Bild 3: I koret finns målningar som kan härledas till kyrkomålaren Mäster Amund. Bild 4-5: Kyrkans innertak var ursprungligen öppet ända upp till takstolen, men täcktes i senare tid, troligen under 1600-talet, av ett plant trätak. Trätaket har två plafondmålningar, som målats av Anders Wetterlind år 1769. De föreställer Syndafallet och Yttersta domen. Bild 6: I kyrkan finns två läktare. Den västra läktaren är äldst och har tillkommit på 1600-talet. På dess läktarbröst finns målningar av profeter och evangelister. Bänkinredningen är från 1700-talets första hälft. Bild 7: I koret förvaras en kopia av den märkliga korstol, som tillhör kyrkan. På dess ena gavel finns ett snidat ulvhuvud och på korstolens rygg finns en runinskrift med lydelsen: ”AVE MARIA GRATIA.” Korstolens original förvaras i Västergötalands museum och daterad till 1100-talet. Obszar podkowy to ponad 560ha tafli wody oraz 8 wysp o łącznej powierzchni blisko 6,5ha. 🏝 ⠀ Jezioro znajduje się w Obszarze Chronionego Krajobrazu Pojezierza Olsztyńskiego. 🛶Brzegi są równie bogate co sam kształt jeziora - urozmaicone licznymi półwyspami, w jednych miejscach są wysokie i zalesione, a gdzie indziej łagodne i pokryte trawą. Zbiornik jest bogaty w ryby. 🐠🐬🐟W okolicach brzegów przy zatokach i wyspach, można natrafić na węgorze, leszcze i liny. Durchs Tal der Schwalm zur Altenburg Teil 1.. Der freie Tag heute stand mal wieder ganz im Zeichen alter und geschichtsträchtiger Orte. Los ging es in Bad Zwesten. Der Weg hoch zum knapp 430 m hohen Berg Altenburg zur gleichnamigen Ringwallanlage führte mich durch das Tal der Schwalm. Das Flüsschen darf hier noch ein bisschen wild sein und der Weg entlang am Ufer hat eine besondere Wirkung. Vorbei an alten Buchen und Eichenbeständen stehen am Wegesrand auch noch alte Grenzsteine. Die voneinander abgewandten Adlerköpfe gehören zum Wappen des Adelsgeschlecht Urff die hier die Grenze zum Adelsgeschlecht Löwenstein markierten. Let’s talk about places. Recently I’ve been doing a lot of exploring in my university city of Winchester. While this is my third year living here I can’t help but feel that I have been taking for granted what a beautiful place I live in. A lot of these pictures you may have seen on my stories however I wanted to post them here as well and just talk about them. While I knew that the city is incredibly historic I hadn’t realise just how many literary links there were as well. For example Winchester college is supposedly where Sherlock Holmes would’ve been educated, and he ‘visited’ the black swan hotel in the Copper Beeches. There is also the house where Jane Austen lived out her last few days which is right next door to the bookshop where her father bought her her first book. I also think that the city would make an ideal setting for a book, who knows, maybe it’ll inspire me to actually try and get back into writing? I also just wanted to let you know here that I will have a blog post going up tomorrow over on my blog and I have one scheduled for the Monday after as well. Great 11 days on the Northville – Lake Placid Trail. Established by the Adirondack Mountain Club in 1923. Starts in Northville, 50 miles northwest of Albany, NY in the Adirondack mountains of Upstate New York. The largest state park in the United States. Winds northward through valleys and over ridges, crossing rivers and wetlands 133 miles north to Lake Placid. Planned on finishing but ended up hiking 80+ miles but only 50+ on the trail so a 1/3 completed. Wow what an a amazing area! Most nights fell asleep to the sounds of owls, loons, beaver, coyote, mountain streams, a little rain and in the lean-tos mice! Met some great and interesting people and had an easy time hitching back to my car back down in Northville. Carried a little too much stuff, food mainly as I missed the Northville Post Office by 10 minutes and carried what I had planned to mail to the Piseco PO. - @sigpatagon on Instagram

Managed to get one side of the roof of my cabin completely done💚🌿 - It’s GREEN!!! - Swipe left to see the process of today. Glad I used the first 4 hours this morning getting spruce rafters ready. The rain forced me to drink more coffee (sort of), but I lifted the tarp over the construction and was able to continue the lashings. Around midday the structure of the second side was ready for a roof too. Placed the tarpaulin I had bought for the project on the roof - and basically just sewed it onto the frame with jute twine. Used an improvised awl/needle made from a stick, had it fixed in no time. Placed a few more branches on top of the tarpaulin. Not many, just enough to secure the moss wouldn’t fall down. Someone asked me why I had tied on a vertical raft at the bottom of each side; they make sure that neither branches or moss can slide. Pushed on, and gathered a lot of moss for the roof. Just using my ground sheath to carry it on. (Note; if you use moss for a shelter, always make sure not to take it from the same site. The moss must have a chance to grow back. It’s worth the extra long walks.) Placed moss securely to one side, all the way. Looks kinda cool I think - and insulates a bit too. Gonna make the other side where the door is tomorrow. Right now; Making dinner inside my new half finished cabin by the light of a lantern. Feels good 👍🏼🌿🥘 A good nights sleep will be good too I guess. At the heart of Exmoor’s former Royal Forest in the village of Simonsbath lies White Rock Cottage and adjacent what was once a picturesque garden, now largely overgrown. Last year we embarked on a project to restore the buildings and garden and uncover their story, with enthusiastic support from dedicated volunteers. We’re now looking for people to share what the site means to them, either as it is today or as it was during its time as a Georgian estate worker’s home, schoolhouse and later as an outdoor recreation centre. We’re interested in how people came to know it, what they love or loved most about it, and how it makes them feel. Your stories will greatly help shape future plans for the site. Whether you have deep roots there or simply enjoy walking your dog, we want to hear from you! Fatmomakke (isn’t that a cool name?) is a few kilometers down a gravel road from Vildmarksvägen - but a must visit. Directly at a lake there stand these beautiful old Sami huts - Fatmomakke has been a place to get together for the Sami people since the 16th century. The Sami built these little huts to be able to spend their church-weekends here - while the settlers built the wooden chalets (swipe left) close to the lake for the same purpose. In my opinion Fatmomakke is one of the best places to camp in the area. You should see the way grain moves up and down the three stories of this gorgeous barn, whooshing through tubes to get sorted, cleaned, milled and bagged. “It’s like a game of chutes and ladders,” says miller/co-owner Mark Fischer.
