Beutepanzer T-34 747 (r) Jerman! Der Beutepanzer memiliki arti captured tank. Istilah ini digunakan oleh militer Jerman saat WW2 untuk menandai tank musuh yang berhasil mereka tawan dan digunakan kembali oleh Jerman. Dalam foto ini, kalian bisa melihat Panzerkampfwagen T-34 747 (r) atau sesuai dengan designasi aslinya, yaitu T-34/76 mod 1942 atau 1943. Bukan Jerman namanya jika tidak melakukan perubahan pada suatu alat perang agar semakin efektif di medan pertempuran. Petinggi militer Jerman seperti Guderian juga kagum dengan tank Soviet yang satu ini. Ia memerintahkan Wehrmacht (AB Jerman) untuk menggunakan kembali sekitar 400 Tank T-34 berbagai model yang berhasil mereka rebut dari Soviet dan menyimpan tank T-34 rusak untuk persediaan suku cadang. Jerman juga menyadari bahwa tank ini sangatlah buta dengan keadaan sekitar karena jarang dilengkapi dengan radio dan memiliki hatch serta cupola dengan visibilitas buruk. Akhirnya Jerman memasang radio komunikasi mereka serta cupola baru untuk posisi commander yang diambil dari tank Panzer III atau Panzer IV yang sudah rusak. Tidak lupa juga, mereka memberikan cat khas Jerman juga Balkenkreuz di bagian turret agar tidak terkena tembakan kawan. Terkadang, swastika juga dipasang di bagian atas tank agar pesawat kawan tidak salah identifikasi dan menyerang mereka. Akhirnya SS Panzer Division juga ikut menggunakan tank ini, tercatat Das Reich dan Totenkopf ikut menggunakan tank T-34 rampasan ini. Ada juga beberapa armored train Jerman yang dilengkapi dengan turret T-34. Intinya sih memanfaatkan apapun yang ada di medan pertempuran. M2 light tank M2 adalah sebuah tank ringan buatan Amerika Serikat yang dirancang pada tahun 1935. Desain tank ini dikembangkan oleh Rock Island Arsenal sebagai tank pendukung infanteri yang didasari dari prototipe tank T1. Versinya ada M2A1 yang diproduksi 10 unit dilanjutkan M2A2, lalu pada tahun 1938 desain varian M2A3 dikembangkan. “A US paratrooper inspects the impact damage on a knocked-out Sherman Firefly along ‘Hell’s Highway’ during Operation Market Garden, 1944. ___ The Sherman Firefly was a tank used by the United Kingdom and some Commonwealth and Allied armoured formations in the Second World War. It was based on the US M4 Sherman but fitted with the powerful 3-inch (76.2 mm) calibre British 17-pounder anti-tank gun as its main weapon. Originally conceived as a stopgap until future British tank designs came into service, the Sherman Firefly became the most common vehicle mounting the 17-pounder in the war. ___ During the war, the British Army made extensive use of Sherman tanks. Though they expected to have their own tank models developed soon, the previously rejected idea of mounting the 17-pounder in the existing Sherman was eventually accepted, despite initial government resistance. This proved fortunate, as both the Cruiser Mk VIII Challenger and Cruiser Mk VIII Cromwell tank designs experienced difficulties and delays. ___ After the difficult problem of getting such a large gun to fit in the Shermans turret was solved, the Firefly was put into production in early 1944, in time to equip Field Marshal Montgomerys 21st Army Group for the Normandy landings. It soon became highly valued, as its gun could almost always penetrate the armor of the Panther and Tiger tanks it faced in Normandy. ___ In recognition of this, German tank and anti-tank gun crews were instructed to attack Fireflies first. -ZSU-57-2 “Sparka”- The ZSU-57-2 is a Soviet self-propelled anti-aircraft gun. As the first Soviet mass-produced tracked SPAAG, it built on the lessons of prototype vehicles developed during WWII. During this combat experience, it became clear to the USSR that a single 37 mm gun was insufficient to combat attack aircraft. The Red Army planned to rely heavily on rapid mechanized advances in the event of another conflict in Europe, but WWII had showed that forces on the move like this were vulnerable to ground attack aircraft. The USA and UK, likely enemies, both possessed highly developed and experienced attack aircraft forces. Soviet engineers began to develop a solution, but the project stagnated for several years. In 1951, they eventually settled on a twin mount of S-68 57 mm guns on a modified T-54 chassis with 8 road wheels and reduced armor. This was an extremely heavy armament for the SPAAGs of the time, which would be devastating if it scored a hit on an enemy aircraft. However, this was often the difficult part, as the vehicle possessed no radar, with only a simple mechanical fire control system for engaging targets. The gunners were forced to visually identify incoming targets, and rely on the computer to track them based on vague guesses. This might have been adequate when the project was first proposed, but with jets now dominating the skies, this was a huge disadvantage. Additionally, although the armament was very powerful, it was actually impractically large, as the high caliber rounds could only be fed in 4 round clips, resulting in a disappointing rate of fire. The heavy guns were also slow to traverse, making it difficult to track targets, and they overheated in sustained fire. The open top also left the crew very vulnerable. Ultimately, The USSR completely replaced the system in the 1970s with the Shilka, which featured radar, an enclosed turret, and more practical 23 mm cannons. The ZSU-57-2 was ultimately the awkward product of an era of rapidly changing technology. Designed in the late 1950s, the tank was approved for production in 1960, and modified versions saw service with the United Kingdom all the way up until the early 1990s. The chieftain was fitted with a 120mm L11A5 rifled gun which fired mainly HESH and APDS rounds, and had 2 L7 machine guns. -On exercise, a Soviet tank officer of the 10th Guards Tank Division discusses battle plans with a commander of the Motostrelki regiment, 1987- This post features a revamped version of my T-64BV, as well as @tanksuwu ‘s T-72A, which I made using instructions from his 500 followers contest. I highly recommend checking his account out for more superb models like this one! At the height of the Cold War, the USSR fielded 52 tank divisions. Under Soviet doctrine, they were designed to work in conjunction with the heavier motorized rifle divisions, exploiting the breakthroughs created by the motorized rifles. In the 1960s, most Soviet formations were designed to operate on a nuclear battlefield, but as more nuclear treaties came into effect, both sides began to consider the possibility of conventional warfare in Europe. As a result, the Soviet tank division underwent a transformation to prepare for high tempo, high intensity manuever warfare on the European Plain. Numbers of attached conventional artillery were drastically increased in order to provide support for the tankers, while anti aircraft formations were also strengthened to defend against NATO attack aircraft. The main striking power of the tank division was provided by three tank regiments, along with one motorized rifle regiment, the inverse of a Motostrelki division. This allowed for a powerful offensive punch, especially with the amount of divisions fielded by the Soviets. However, in practice, Soviet divisions were generally smaller than NATO formations, although more numerous. Additionally, only the elite tank units were equipped with the newest equipment, tasked with leading the attack. Many other second tier divisions, along with many of those fielded by Warsaw Pact allies, were equipped with highly outdated tanks and suffered from a lower standard of training. Fortunately, the world never witnessed the Soviet tank division in action against NATO, so it is impossible to say for sure how it would have stacked up. The StuG: A new concept in warfare ___ “One of only a handful of the brand new StuG III to see service in the West, this dusty StuG III Ausf. A shows the scars of combat on its frontal armour. By the size of the holes, possibly an anti-tank rifle. Location unknown, May/June 1940. ___ In May of 1940, during Operation ‘Fall Gelb’, a new concept made his debut on the battlefield: The Sturmartillerie (Assault Artillery). The Germans called it the Sturmgeschütz (literally Assault Gun), or StuG for shorts. In its early versions it was designed specifically to help infantry deal with hard points such as bunkers, mg nests and fortified positions. Its low silhouette, 50 mm of frontal armor, and 75mm low velocity gun packing HE rounds made it a formidable opponent against any infantry position. ___ The first StuG to enter combat belonged to 16.Sturmbatterie, assigned to the ‘Großdeutschland’ Infanterie-Regiment. On the 10th of May, at the French village of Villers, 20 miles west from Luxembourg, II.Batallion found the place occupied by French cavalry. The French stood their ground and a heated firefight followed. In the meantime, I.Batallion, with the Sturmbatterie attached, arrived at the scene. The call was heard for the first time: ‘Sturmbatterie to the front!’ ___ The action, partially transcribed: ‘The third platoon dashed forward; its leader, Lt. Franz standing erect in the turret of his command vehicle, followed closely by StuG Nr.5 and 6. The platoon found no resistance until arriving at the center of town where it received heavy mg fire. Pada tahun 1934 perusahaan vickers armstrong diminta menyediakan tank yang murah. Desain dikenal dengan spesifikasi staf umum A9. Model contoh desain tank selesai pada tahun 1936 dan diberi nama A9E1. Tank ini menggabungkan beberapa fitur seperti turret yang terletak di tengah. Ditenagai mesin bensin komersial dan permukaan lapis baja banyak berbentuk vertikal. Kompartemen pengemudi dan tempur tidak dipisahkan dan ada dua menara kecil di kedua sisi kompartemen pengemudi. A9E1 diuji dengan desain tank lain dan berhasil bertahan sebagai juara dan diterima untuk diproduksi pada tahun 1937. 125 tank dipesan oleh tentara inggris. Tank ini efektif dalam kampanye Prancis, Yunani, dan Afrika Utara. Pistol 2 Pdr efektif melawan tank Italia dan panzer jerman. Yaitu panzer II hingga panzer IV. Namun semenjak datang panzer IV ausf E pistolnya tidak terlalu efektif lagi. Meskipun efektif tank ini begitu rentan dengan senjata anti tank musuh dan treknya pun memiliki masalah mekanis yang serius apalagi kebanyakan pelat bajanya tipis dan datar sehingga mudah ditembus. Tank AA, 20 mm Quad, Skink was a Canadian self-propelled anti-aircraft gun, developed in 1943–44, in response to a requirement from the First Canadian Army. Due to a lack of threat from the German Luftwaffe, the Skink was cancelled in 1944 after only 3 were built. From 6 February to 11 March 1945, the Skink visited all but one of the Canadian armoured regiments - from Nijmegen to the Cleve area - frequently engaging the German army. All units found it to be a valuable asset but no enemy aircraft presented itself to the Skinks guns and its main function was to flush out stubborn pockets of enemy infantry and force their surrender. The remaining Skink pilots and the completed turrets went into long-term storage in Canada where, at some point, they were scrapped. GO BACK AND READ THE FIRST 5 PARTS [Part6] The five of us made the 2 kilometer journey in just under ten minutes. Our GPV Colonel sat squat, and well hidden under what used to be a freeway overpass that lay before us. It was a beast of a vehicle, 8 Wheels, sleek black. Though ours was not armed, it could be. All terrain, and amphibious with an NBC filtration system, this vehicle could get anybody anywhere. My men entered the APC before I did, while I kept watch on the surroundings. Once the last man was in, I hopped in the narrow triangular doorway, then shut it behind myself. It shut with a satisfying hiss. Bravo took over the operator seat, and fired the vehicle up. The Caterpillar engine fired up with a nice rumble. Everything began whirring to life within the vehicle. After a few seconds of hissing, an alarm buzzed, followed by a computerized female voice Air Quality Pure. I was relieved to take off my gas mask, and slip the NBC suit off down to my waist. Everybody else did the same. I stowed my weapons to the side, and kicked my legs out. This had only been our third trip to the surface, and it was pretty successful trip. We had never ventured out 70 klicks from Cheyenne Mountain before. We did good work today guys, even if we did not get the supplies. I declared. Delta nodded. Most definitely, any days a good day that were out of that concrete tomb. From the front passenger seat Echo began laughing Yeah, but that concrete tomb has showers! Looking back across at Delta, I chuckled Hes got you there. The vehicle began moving, and we were on our way. It was at least one hour back to the bunker, and we settled in for the journey...
