St. James Church was built by Col. James Skinner in 1823. In 1988, INTACH Delhi Chapter was approached by the Church Committee who had no financial resources to restore the church. With sheer determination to see the process through, INTACH mobilized resources and involved agencies such as Govt. of NCT of Delhi, HM Queen Elizabeth II, British Association for Cemeteries in South Asia, Indian Army Regiment of Skinners Horse (1st Horse), INTACH UK Trust, @britishcouncil, @iccrom_official to undertake the conservation work. By 1999, the project was competed wherein major elements of the #conservation were the #restoration of the cracks in the dome, addressing issues of extensive seepage and badly damaged stained glass windows. 👏 La scène artistique Marocaine se déchaîne, pétition contre pétition. Plus de 700 artistes marocains de renom ont vivement dénoncé « plusieurs cas d’emprisonnement politique, de harcèlements et de répression » et ont signé une pétition intitulée « Collectif des 670 », en réaction au manifeste des « 400 ». 💥 Ils sont 670 artistes à critiquer « le caractère non équilibré et volontairement à charge contre les institutions de l’État ». Today we are celebrating the opening of two major exhibitions! Ghosts from the Recent Past explores how urgencies of the recent past continue to inhabit the present. Framed by key political events of the past 40 years, both in Ireland and further afield, the exhibition presents artworks from the IMMA Collection from the 1980s onwards. Featuring works from IMMA’s Collection together with international collections, the exhibition debuts artworks from the major donation of the Kerlin Gallery Collection to the museum in 2018. At 4pm, we are opening Paul Rego Obedience and Defiance. This is a major retrospective by one of the most influential figurative artists of our time, Paula Rego. The selection of works focuses on the moral challenges to humanity, particularly in the face of violence, gender discrimination and political tyranny. Many of the images begin with the artist’s Portuguese roots and childhood experiences or respond to current affairs. There are still some tickets available for this evening. For Wittgenstain language is a form of life, because the way we use it is always a reflection of our individual experiences, habits and skills. Wollheim makes the same point as Wittgenstain but in relation to works of art, he states that artists are conditioned by their context- their beliefs, histories, emotional dispositions, physical needs and communities- and the world that they interpret is a world of constant change. What I seek in my work is a crack in the rules made by power. It’s there, a possibility of healing a community through the wounds appear through art? Those visual wounds are important for me to describe, even when knowing that they spill drops of anguish for some observers. History does not belong to us but we belong to it and we can make a change.
