Dad tries to make a fire from bow drill • Juliet lends a hand • Dad stokes the fire • These light-leaked photos were taken in 2018 in Las Nutrias, New Mexico, where my dad spent his childhood summers helping on his family’s ranch land. This sequence of my sister teaching him how to make a fire from bow drill is so special to me, and represents my Dad’s outlook on life. He was down for all adventures, and would try anything once - even if he failed, it was an opportunity to make someone laugh. He especially loved learning from his children. Last year he texted me “I would love to be an assistant on one of your future projects, I can go for whatever is needed. It would make for a fun vacation getaway from my life” The creative work I get to do today is thanks to his years of support and encouragement. Im not sure anyone needs to hear or see this right now, but I used to have a pixie cut and work at Red Lobster. I wore khaki pants and a fish shirt and would come home smelling like shrimp scampi. Working in the service industry, slinging all you can eat shrimp and cheddar bay biscuits is a lot harder than it looks, but we had a great time. It was one of the most valuable experiences of my life. This picture was taken by @mothermodel at their office in Iowa. I would work there during the day, getting an education about fashion... then change into my fish shirt and head to Red Lobster for the night shift. Thank you for sending this pic @mothermaryclarke . It reminds me that I wouldn’t change a thing and to show appreciation for our struggling service workers by giving a few extra bucks and an extra smize these days 😷 - @justmegday on Instagram
