La ruta transpantaneira une el municipio de Pocone con Porto Jofre en el estado de Mato Grosso. La mayor parte de su recorrido es de tierra y espero que este así mucho tiempo. Esta ruta esta atravesada por más de 122 pequeños cursos de agua y tiene sorpresas en cada uno de sus kilómetros. Una de esas sorpresas, fue encontrarnos con este fantástico animal que es el Oso Melero. Aquí se lo puede ver en su posición defensiva, parado sobre sus patas traseras, pero no lo estábamos molestando, al contario. Se encontraba aturdido o deshidratado en medio del camino. Vaya a saber que le estaría pasado. El calor era agobiante, le dimos un poco de agua en un recipiente y la bebió. Después de uno minutos lo ayudamos a salirse del camino y le deseamos buena suerte. wow! 😍 👉🏻 give @seanweeklywildlife a follow for some incredible wildlife photography inspiration 🙌🏻 this one is just awesome!! #repost --- I had a great evening Sunday night shooting for the first time with @canonuk R5 with a local photographer @toms206 photographing a Badger family local to him in the Brecon Beacons. It was incredible to be so close to them without having to use a hide. A credit to Thomas hard work getting this family used to him and trusting him for the last few years that he has been visiting them. I decided after seeing a nice ridge on one of the sett entrances that i wanted to get a nice back-lit image. Setting up one single off camera flash positioned behind the entrance was the best option for this shot. Southern sea otters like Brook spend most of their time searching for food as they must consume between 20-25% of their body weight every day in order to maintain a normal body temperature. To make searching for prey easier, these otters can dive to 300 feet and remain submerged for up to 90 seconds, capturing critters like sea urchins with their clawed paws before returning to the surface to feed. - This is a tamandua, which diverged from the giant anteater 12.9 million years ago. They are still their closest relatives, and like the giant anteater, carry their babies on their backs. The mother sometimes will leave the babies on safe branches while they forage.
As we come into spring our rescue service is going to become busier and busier. The female flying foxes are getting to the later stages of their pregnancies and are going to start getting into trouble as they try to find enough food to feed themselves and their baby. We thought it would be a good idea to do a ‘Wildlife Friendly Gardens’ series. So over the next 6 weeks we will be doing a post on a way you can make your property safer for not only bats, but all of our native wildlife. Our first post is a 2 part post on our pets and how we can care for them more responsibly. We would like to start by saying that we love our pets, most of our rehabilitators and rescuers have pet cats and dogs. This is not an anti pet post, we just want to have a discussion. This first part is on dogs. Dog attacks are one of our most common reasons for flying fox rescue and the survival for these flying foxes is incredibly low. Now these are not mean or aggressive dogs, they are lovely family dogs doing what comes naturally to them. It’s our responsibility to ensure they don’t have the opportunity to hurt wildlife. The easiest and most effective solution is to let your dog sleep inside the house at night. This is becoming more and more common and is by far the best way to make your garden safe for nocturnal wildlife. The second way is to secure your dog in an internal yard or smaller fenced area during the night so they have less access to your garden. This is less effective but at least leaves a safe corridor for wildlife to move through your property. Dogs are lovely pets but they can be devastating for local wildlife if not kept responsibly. Additionally, dogs are one of the main reasons for koala fatalities which predominantly occur at night. So keeping your dogs in at night not only helps bats, but koalas as well! Thankfully this pair beat the statistics with Stella sustaining very serious but viable injuries from the dog. Es #viernesdeilustracion y en esta ocasión el tema es animales en peligro y escogí hablar de nutrias por que of course. Also thanks to @crayola_mx !! :D Por años a lucha por territorio, cambios en el ambiente y caza han puestos a las nutrias marinas y nutrias gigantes de rio en peligro de extinción, pero un nuevo problema ha surgido en los últimos años, la captura ilegal para el mercado de mascotas, es especial de la nutria enana asiática. Esta especie se ha vuelto popular en los últimos años gracias al Internet, lo que ha aumentado su demanda como mascota, las nutrias enanas son animales con fuertes lazos sociales y forman familias que duran toda la vida, por lo que la captura de los cachorros no solamente implica romper estos lazos pero herir a los otros miembros del grupo, si no que afectar gravemente el desarrollo de las crías, las cuales en la mayoría de las ocasiones no solamente terminan en ambientes que jamas podrán sustituir su habitad natural pero en manos de gente que sin los conocimientos o recursos para mantenerlas correctamente. Si bien este problema aun no es tan grande como el que sufren sus primos mayores, es precisamente por eso por que decidí hablar sobre el, por que aun estamos a tiempo de hacer algo antes de que el problema se vuelva mas grande.
