The water system that has quenched the East Valley’s thirst through more than a century of droughts and floods is well positioned to deal with the coming effects of climate change, according to a new federal study. ¿Cómo se concilia nuestra mesticidad cuando nuestros ancestros están en perpetua enemistad? Los mestizos somos la raza resultante de pueblos indigenas originarios de Las Americas que fueron mezclados, muchas veces forzosamente, con los europeos blancos que hace mas de 500 años aterrizaron con la vision de expandir los imperios del viejo mundo. Esta conquista resultó en genocidios, la apropiación indebida de tierras y la supresión de la cultura e historia pre-hispánica. Estos accionares se repiten en todos los pueblos indígenas de cada país de nuestros continentes. En Chile, se puede decir que el pueblo Mapuche representa la mitad indígena de nuestra identidad mestiza. Este pueblo resiliente y orgulloso de su vínculo profundo con la tierra, nos recuerda que somos solo parte del ecosistema y no dueños de él. Desde el primer contacto con los conquistadores, este pueble ha luchado una guerra tanto territorial como ideológica en contra de un mundo que no deja de avanzar y que se rehusa a reconocer el valor y el respeto que estos pueblos merecen. Los hechos violentos y represivos que atormentan los territorios sureños de nuestro país solo acentúan una necesidad fundamental de construir políticas y sociedades juntos, y no continuar con nuestros patrones colonizadores que solamente han resultado en dolor y represión, y que inevitablemente detonan en una movilización beligerante por parte de las personas afectadas. Deseo ver paz y respeto para el pueblo Mapuche y todo pueblo originario de nuestras Americas. Sin embargo, antes de la paz debe haber justicia, y antes de la justicia debe haber un reconocimiento de errores pasados. Colegio La Salle La Colina Al comenzar la década de 1940, el #ColegioDeLaSalleDeCaracas (actualmente conocido como #TiendaHonda), resultaba insuficiente para la cantidad de solicitudes de inscripción que recibía. Es entonces cuando se piensa en la posibilidad de abrir una sucursal para aliviar el congestionamiento de La Salle #Caracas. Se buscó un terreno hacia el Este, propiedad del urbanista #LuisRoche, en el sector denominado #LaColina, de la nueva urbanización #LosCaobos, donde ha funcionado hasta el día de hoy. El hermano #GastónElie, director de Tienda Honda, compró el terreno el 7 de septiembre de 1942 y de inmediato se dio a conocer el proyecto. Se comienzan los primeros movimientos de tierras en diciembre de 1943 y el primer edificio, de #ArquitecturaModerna, estuvo listo tal día como hoy 25 de septiembre del año 1944 para recibir a los 89 alumnos fundadores. El 16 de diciembre de ese mismo año se bendijo e inauguró el nuevo edificio en donde funciona actualmente Media General (4to y 5to Año) La participación de la Iglesia se hizo presente en la inauguración del colegio en la persona del excelentísimo Dr. Lucas Guillermo Castillo Arzobispo Coadjuntor de Caracas y el Dr. Pedro Pablo Tenseiro, Obispo titular de Ortossia, contando con la participación del Dr. Lorenzo Fernández como orador de orden. Hasta el año 1947 funcionó como extensión de Tienda Honda, en ese año se establece como una institución autónoma: el #ColegioLaSalleLaColina; su primer Director y Fundador fue el Hermano Gastón Elie. Nabil Anani (@na.anani) took on experimenting with leather, after the First Intifada in Palestine took place. He, along with serval other artists, joined in to boycott Israeli merchandise as a way of protest. He remembered that he had been to a leather factory in Hebron, his native city, where the leather industry is historically located. He started using leather as canvas and henna (a natural local dye used for wedding rituals) and tea as paint. He recounted that the leather slipped and crumpled in the first painting he attempted to make, because he treated it as one would treat canvas, stretching it on a frame. Slowly Anani adapted to the new material, and its magnificent artistic value shown through. 121 years ago today, the Newsboys Strike of 1899 took place. Here was our first idea for the Prologue for NEWSIES. Although Tobin Ost’s sketch is beautiful, thank God Tom Schumacher, president of Disney Theatrics, vetoed it.
