Creepy feature 10/10: Trail insurance! This final topic shows some details I hope keep Creepy alive in the rocks as well as spares and tools I carry. The first picture was snapped during @fullsizeinvasion by @kencalbuilder without me knowing. It cracks me up because I am normally smiling but this shot is probably a better capture of my rock crawling mentality. I think in multiple scenarios and how to recover when (not if) entropy happens. Not surprisingly Creepy weighs over 7000 lbs in part because of all the spares and rock armor I’ve added over the years. But I’m ok with the weight...I sleep better on the trail. They include: Ready-welder... this is a 24v spool gun welder powered by two car batteries in series. I have three switches I disengage and one breaker to flip converting Creepy’s batteries from parallel to series in seconds. The front and rear winch plugs are then 24V and I can plug in and weld. (Last Rubicon run ended up welding on three different rigs). AC inverter is mounted under dash for power tools. Spare axles shafts, drivelines and leaf spring are stashed under frame and fenders. Front and rear frame points have “rock knuckles” which are basically steel rollers to slide over tall obstacles. Also made rear differential roller just for fun. Probably my most useful bit of protection is a full rear driveline gaurd that prevents damage to this most vulnerable of drivetrain components. In addition I have two heavy boxes of spare parts and fab materials. It’s a lot, but so far Creepy has always come home under his own power and has often helped others who were otherwise stranded.
