Hey guys, Chad here. Wanted to add some more records that have had influence on me over the years and my playing on “Mortal”. Death - “Leprosy” This was the first Death/Thrash Metal album I ever bought when I was growing up. After hearing Cannibal Corpse’s “Tomb of the Mutilated”, I wanted to find more bands like that and bought “Leprosy” at Streetlight Records because it had a staff recommendation sticker on it. I remember hearing the whole album and just being blown away by how sick it was. The music sounded so different from anything I had heard before. It really opened the door for me to hear new Thrash and Death Metal bands from then on. “Sinister Will” and “Your Hell” are the tracks where the “Leprosy” influence is prominent. Morbid Angel - “Altars of Madness” Another album that influenced me and my drumming for “Mortal”. You can hear the influence heavily on “Your Hell” and “Stench of Decay”. The power and speed that Pete Sandoval delivers on this whole album will be forever unmatched. The way he is able to go from top-speed blasts to an even faster double-kick section was something I strived to accomplish for our record. “Altars of Madness” is without a doubt an influential album across the board for any Death Metal band playing currently. Doom - “Bury the Debt, Not the Dead” (No Security Split) This album blew my mind when I was 13 or 14 years old. Doom, along with Nausea (N.Y.) and Icons of Filth, were my favorite Crust bands growing up and really helped to shape my political / moral worldview. I remember my first band used to cover Doom songs til we were able to write our own originals. While Doom’s influence isn’t particularly noticeable on “Mortal”, I think it’s still important to list this Split as an influence because it made me want to play really fast, aggressive music. No Security is also a totally underrated Swedish Punk band and you should totally listen to their side of the Split as well Thanks for following along and especially everyone who picked up a copy of “Mortal”. Ich könnte versuchen, mich besser an meine Zukunft zu erinnern und meine Vergangenheit etwas vielfältiger planen. Es ist ja nicht so wichtig was sich in der Vergangenheit abspielt, richtig? Hauptsache es geht mir jetzt gut. Ich muss mich nicht um die Vergangenheit kümmern, oder? Doch warum ist es dann so wichtig was in der Zukunft passiert? Wenn es mir doch jetzt gut geht? was ist so anders an der Zukunft? Der Tot? Wir tun alles um ihm auszuweichen. Doch der Tot ist das selbe wie die Geburt, auf der anderen Seite unserer Existenz. Warum soll er schlecht sein? Warum feiern wir ihn nicht wie unseren Geburtstag? Er ist so ungewiss! Wir wissen nicht wo er ist. Wir können zwar jeden Moment sterben, doch für die meisten von uns ist es nicht sehr wahrscheinlich dass es bald passiert. Ebenso unwahrscheinlich wie vor 5 Minuten erst geboren zu sein. Deshalb stellen wir uns auf etwas anderes ein und möchten ungern enttäuscht werden. Aber haben wir denn Gewissheit dass wir nicht eben erst geboren sind? Nein! Vielleicht hat uns ein übermächtiges Alien gerade erst in seinem überrealen Instagram Feed gepostet und wir haben vorher garnicht existiert. Wir machen uns nur keine Sorgen darum weil es sehr unwahrscheinlich ist. Oder es ist zu 100% wahrscheinlich weil alles mögliche parallel existiert? Wir können nunmal nur in unserem Model der Realität denken und lenken. So wie Stephen Hawkings Goldfisch in seinem Glas. Doch vielleicht ist es ein Irrglaube in dem wir zur Zeit leben, dass sich der Umgang mit der Zukunft so stark von unserem Umgang mit der Vergangenheit unterscheiden muss. Wir können uns nur schlecht an unsere Zukunft erinnern, während wir uns sehr gut viele verschiedene Möglichkeiten der Zukunft auszumalen können, so dass die Zukunft ungewiss erscheint. Gleichzeitig klammern wir uns an eine einzige Version der Vergangenheit ohne viele Alternativmöglichkeiten so dass wir sie für erledigt halten. Den Unterschied zwischen Zukunft und Vergangenheit, welchen wir wahrnehmen is allein eine Charaktereigenschaft des Menschen und von psychologischer Natur. Das heißt sie ist gewissermaßen änderbar. While running, she didnt realize that a figure was sitting on a tree above, watching her disappear in the rain. This is going to be fun- he said to himself as he jumped down and ran to a place he knew pretty well. In far distant, a cabin could be seen from the girls view, slightly obscured in the storm. Maria wasnt passing a chance of getting shelter and, thus started running towards it. The figure stood by the window holding a bloodied knife in hand. He patiently watched Maria race towards the cabin he was at. Perfect, shes heading this way...saves me the hassle, he laughed out insanely and walked away from the window, disappearing within. Maria stood underneath a shade near the cabins door, completely drenched, waiting for the storm to end. She kept glancing at the cabins door now and then, thinking whether or not to go in. Finally, she knocked on the door. But to her surprise with a slight knock, the door creaked open. Hello? Maria asked peeking her head in, only to see a dark hallway. Anyone there? She asked again as she walked inside holding her wet backpack. Lightning flashed illuminating the room. In that brief moment, she saw a portrait of a family and went in for a closer look. She observed the portrait closely. The father and the mother looked so happy and so did their sons in the portrait. This first piece is titled Cyrus slays the Dragon. Description of work: “Ink, stippling, finished July 2020. I like separating shapes in a plane, ostensibly a Joseph Cornell Box image (Cornell is an artist that I admire and emulate; a 1940s and 50s New York artist who uses boxes as his canvas). Part 2/3.....🥀 ....continued..... Just as she turned away from the portrait, another lightning flashed, brightly radiating something on the floor. It looked like pearl beads. Curious, she bent down for a closer look to find blood droplets instead. The droplets were lined, leading to upstairs. Maria froze out of fear. A huge thumping sound came from the upstairs. Instead of running away, she swung her wet backpack over her shoulder and followed the drops of blood. As she reached the edge the blood disappeared. One of the doors was ajar in the hallway. The light flickered. She moved cautiously. As she looked around, she found blood was splattered everywhere. She was shocked to death. Upon walking further she saw that in the mirror something was written. It read— Aint I Beautiful? written with blood. Maria backed her steps slowly, a gush of wind slammed the door shut. It locked her in. Unable to open the door, she spied another door just to the left which led to a connecting bedroom. As she placed her hand on the knob, she felt chills running down her spine, as if something evil was going to happen. Open it... a voice beckoned her from the shadows. Open it... the voice said again as she twisted the knob. Maria used one hand to cover her nose from the stench while the other covered her mouth from throwing up. The dead bodies of the mother and father were lying on the ground slowly, being eaten by maggots and on their faces, a smile was carved stretching to the cheeks. She quickly reached for the bedroom door, it was locked. She ran back into the bathroom and opened the other door. She was welcomed in with the same smell and on the bed was the older brother covered in cuts all over his body with a few maggots eating him. His emerald green eyes looked lifeless, the same smile was cut in his face as well. Maria backed up in fear but ended up bumping into a chest. To be continued....stay tuned.... The @nytimes asked a handful of Asian American artists to contribute a self-portrait to “What We Look Like”, a piece on the Asian American experience. I’m proud to be along side some other great Asian American artists ✌️. Here’s the longer version of my lil bit: “My parents are first-generation immigrants. I am Asian American, specifically Korean American. As I was growing up, the term Asian American simultaneously comforted and confused me. I found comfort in that there was an inherent sense of camaraderie with other Asian Americans. However, the label also confused me because while yes, I was Asian, and yes, I was American, I never really felt I belonged to either community. I was constantly attempting to assimilate into communities that would inevitably exclude me to some degree. Amongst my white American peers, I would always be a representation of a different culture. To my peers in Korea, I was a foreigner who just happened to look like them. I was a foreigner to them, and they were foreigners to me. I now have a better understanding of the duality of my identity, and take pride in it, but a disconnect from both American and Korean cultures still lingers. Execution by elephant or Gunga Rao, originated in India & Southeast Asia as early as the 5th Century. The versatility of Pachyderms is best described by their unique ability to torture humans. They would toss victims between each other, crush the breath from lungs, burst heads like grapes beneath their feet, dismember courtesy of blades attached to their feet and “rearrange” internal organs using tusks outfitted with weapons. Their sheer strength and remarkable intelligence made them ideal for executing such in depth torture. Elephants were used by rulers to show their indomitable rule and control over all beings. . . The Muslim traveler and scholar Ibn Battuta, visiting Delhi in the 1330s, had left the following eyewitness account: “Their hoofs were cased with sharp iron instruments, and the extremities of these were like knives. ...when a man was thrown to them, they would wrap the trunk about him and toss him up, then take him with the teeth and throw him between their fore feet upon the breast... ..If the order (from the Emporer) was to cut him to pieces, the elephant would do so with his irons, and then throw the pieces among the assembled multitude: but if the order was to leave him, he would be left lying before the Emperor, until the skin should be taken off, and stuffed with hay, and the flesh given to the dogs” . Coconuts were first cultivated on islands in Southeast Asia, India and throughout islands in the Indian Ocean, while India has been the largest consumer, producer and exporter of Mint for decades. . Paired with certain hops to accentuate the flavors present in the adjuncts, sour juicy pineapple and tropical hop notes battle for first presence, followed by starfruit, sweet coconut, slight cedar and fresh mint. Acidic flavors of bromelian pineapple & Persian limes subside for an invasive coconut backdrop balanced by hop bitterness, green tea and cooling mint zip for a refreshing finish. .
