Not me or mine

- If you want Thrace come and get it.,Turkey,1935

After 4 hours of posting this #painting, @instagram has bowed to the wishes of a couple of ignorant people who don’t understand art or know anything about art history, and decided to remove it for “violence or dangerous organizations”. . . If you can’t get the underlying message of this #artwork and think this somehow encourages or promotes anything evil, then you need to open your eyes and look again. . . If such artistic #censorship were to go unchecked, then many of the masterpieces in the world’s biggest museums would be gone (Caravaggio’s “Medusa”, Goya’s “Disasters of War”, Bosch’s “Garden of Earthly Delights” just to name a few. And let’s not mention Shakespeare’s Macbeth). . . “My art is a question, not an answer”. - Gottfried Helnwein . . Art that challenged their ideology, was labeled as “degenerate art” and forbidden by the nazis. . . So please like and share this image again, we must stand up for #freespeech and fight artistic censorship! . . All the best from the team at Studio Helnwein . . Untitled, 1988, watercolor on cardboard, 60x42cm. - @gottfriedhelnwein on Instagram

Ask Ellis, a solo exhibition by @westernuvisarts MFA candidate Matt W. Brown (@mattw.brown) opens tomorrow at McIntosh Gallery. We continue to be open to the public by appointment only, so be sure to contact our Director, James Patten at jpatten2@uwo.ca to book your visit! The artist began this series of works on paper during a period of profound grief over the loss of a child, Ellis. Contemplative and solitary, the slow process of production involved making folded paper trays to contain diluted pigment and then waiting for weeks to see what evaporation would leave behind on the paper. Brown soon realized that what had vanished through evaporation was as intrinsic to the work as the visible traces it left behind. To read more about the exhibition and Browns work, visit the Current Exhibition tab through the link in our bio. #WesternUCreates - @mcintoshgallery on Instagram

“A Taste of Things to Come”에서 보일 수 있는 Zakaria Legs 작품의 모델인 자카리아는 모로코 알포드(Erfoud) 출신의 타악기 연주자로 사막의 왕자라는 별명을 갖고 있습니다.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Hassan Hajjaj’s “Legs” series shows the global image of today and Hajjaj’s multicultural identity. Featuring photographs of legs in which intense colors and patterns collide, these legs are both a metaphor for and a gesture of respect towards nomads who have walked great distances around the world. Zakaria, the subject of the work “Zakaria Legs,” able to be viewed in “A Taste of Things to Come, is a percussionist from Erfoud, Morocco, nicknamed “the prince of the desert.”⠀⠀ -⠀⠀ Zakaria Legs, framed photography by Hassan Hajjaj, 2015/1436⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Wamuhu Legs, framed photography by Hassan Hajjaj, 2013/1434⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Joe Legs, framed photography by Hassan Hajjaj, 2012/1433⠀ -⠀⠀⠀ @hassanhajjaj_larache #하산하자즈 #ATasteOfThingsToCome #다가올것들에대한취향 #바라캇컨템포러리 #현대미술 #전시 #8월전시 #삼청동 #hassanhajjaj #barakatcontemporary #contemporaryart #exhibition #art⠀ - @barakat_contemporary on Instagram

In 1876 Anne Whitney became the first woman to create a statue representing a state in the National Statuary Hall Collection. Her statue paid tribute to #SamuelAdams, the Father of the American Revolution from #Massachusetts who was born OTD in 1722. The statue was so popular, the city of Boston commissioned a bronze copy that stands outside of #FaneuilHall. Learn more about the artist and the statue in the first episode of our podcast, Shaping History: Women in Capitol Art, https://www.visitthecapitol.gov/blog/article/anne-whitney-and-marmorean-flock.
