My father passed away on Tuesday, June 2. My babisko ,my best friend, muse of my “experimental art” projects is now my guardian angel. Getting personal but ... I just wanted to thank my lovely friends who supported me so much throughout the years. He thought me not to take life for granted and to be happy with what you have between moments. He fought a lot to be with us, had strength i can never understand. He needs to be on a medical journal for real. I always teased him calling him Terminator. I hope he’ll watch me make it happen and be proud of me. He, a film nerd, always wanted me to make a sci-fi film, I don’t know about that one :) I couldn’t be by his side for the past month as there’re still no flights back to Istanbul. (It’s hard being separated from family during grief, if anyone you know is going thru something similar hit me up) Everyday I’m grateful for his liver transplant donor, I think about him and his family often but especially today. If they only knew that it gave me 6 extra beautiful years with my dad. We had a ring exchange on our original May 3rd wedding date that got postponed, our actual wedding on August 16th for our third wedding date and yesterday the day before our second wedding date of September 20th that got cancelled, we had a fun backyard BBQ wedding dress up at my brothers house. Covid really threw us some obstacles so our wedding looked a heck of a lot different but made it that much more special when we could all come together. My heart feels full and complete now. Its my birthday today. Im 36 years old, its the middle of a worldwide pandemic. And the only person I can think about today is my Dad. Last year was a year of firsts. First birthdays w/o him, first Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Christmas (his favorite) and the 1st year anniversary of his death on May 9th. They say the first year is the hardest, but theyre wrong. Its the 2nd. The shock has worn off and now you realize you have to live without them for the rest of your life. Last week, August 29th, He would have been 70 years old (He shares his birthday with my older sister Eileen, and me and my Younger sister are Sept 4th and 5th) I know if he was still here, we would have had a huge party for all of us and he would have been the loudest, goofiest, and funniest person in the room. This year doesnt feel like a celebration with all the horrible shit going on. So just do me a favor. Hug your friends, tell your family you love them, hold someones hand (wash it first) and tell them youve got their back. Everything is temporary, so make the memories. Oldie but goodie with my favorite person🤗❤️ • With both of us recently starting residency, I’m here to tell you that it can be VERY challenging maintaining a healthy and strong relationship when both parties are extremely busy. We’re often both up and at the hospital before sunrise, and sleep by 8pm on most weeknights (well me at least 😂). Sixty-to-eighty hour workweeks may end up being normal for him during his 5 years of training (dermatology hours tend to be lighter 🙃), and as we’re both trying to learn new hospital systems and new skillsets, this has definitely been an adjustment period! • Some keys that we’ve found to keeping things afloat in the midst of such demanding schedules are (1) always make it a priority to make time for each other daily, even if it’s just 5 min on FaceTime, or a good morning/goodnight text. (2) Unplug when we’re together to really try to make the most out of that limited time. (3) Lastly and most importantly being patient and understanding, especially as it comes to each others’ workload. The life of madness! The boss/big brother is happy out today as it’s a Tuesday... so he can chase the bin men and the bin truck around again with mammy and baby Siiista. I love Tuesdays, as he allow me to dress him without any tantrums... All because of the “bin men bribery”😂 Tantrums are constant these days... and he is super clingy as he is still trying to get used to having the new baby in The house! A week at home now, so he is coping better with us having to give love to her as well! Though he is so so good to her and loves playing with her and cuddling with her! 🥰😍 - Extra Tuesday bonus... I have realised that the little ms loves to lie inside my top, when her tummy hurts her... So I now stuff her down my top when I sit down, and I then have two arms free as she just hangs there😂😂😂 - Sure it only took me and her two weeks of life to discover this trick😂 Now I just need to get a tiny bit more functioning, so I can cut our grass and fix the garden again. This is Nate, he was 19. He is my girlfriend’s cousin, and him and I became good friends over our cars the past couple years. He passed yesterday due to a horrible motorcycle accident and it has left me at a loss for words. Everytime I was in his town I would make an effort to hang with him and cruise with him, but it unfortunately never happened. Nate was the reason and inspiration for me to finally get a stick shift, and we both upgraded from V6’s to V8’s at relatively the same time. Like many people I am seeking creative ways to continue my work, and to provide some comfort, entertainment, and support to all of you while we follow safety measures during this pandemic. I think Ive found a way to do that with Patreon. Im making a new book, and Im making it in a new way. Instead of hustling for the most productivity and hurting myself in the process, Im going to be stubborn and determined about taking care of myself first. Some of my best ideas have come to me while walking, or gardening. Many of the most intriguing and beautiful images in my head have emerged from the depths of my body as I practiced Continuum, or lay still in meditation. Health and creativity are not just close friends, they are one in the same. If you want to follow along the process of making the book, Ive got a $3 tier that will get you monthly updates and new pages. If you are working on your own creativity, and you want to receive creative exercises, project structuring, and time management skills and tips, theres a $6/month tier for that. If you want access to a monthly Q&A session, that tier costs $10/month. If youre ready to get into weekly practices with me, the $20 tier will give you access to a Saturday session of health practices that concern a rotating topic, where well check in and learn and practice together. The top tier is for one-on-one support, which I really believe in and will limit to 3 people per month. Please reach out if you want access to my work, but cant financially support it right now. Almost two months ago, I quietly moved out of NYC and out of the apartment I’d lived in for the past eight and a half years. The weekend of the move was also the first weekend of the Black Lives Matter protests, and I wanted to be out in the streets so bad. Instead, I was in a U-Haul. June and July brought me up to Maine, and August will be spent between upstate NY and Vermont. From there...I’ll probably head out west, but not exactly clear about how and when. It’s both scary and exciting not to have all of the details worked out. And if I’ve learned anything from nature, it’s that life feels better when you ride the current downstream. Much of my heart is still in New York, in the streets that shaped me, and with the friends that I love and will miss dearly ☁️☁️☁️ I’ll see you sometime soon though, this is definitely not goodbye - @alyssadara on Instagram

Today I woke up thinking about the days I first started racing and how much my parents encouraged me. And specifically I thought about all of the times my Dad set my compensator, even in my young adult years. I thought about all of the tires he’s changed and all of the times he drove me to my competitons and would be the loudest person cheering me on. I thought about the times I thought I performed poorly and could hear him saying as long as you’re having fun and did the best you could do, it’s all that matters. And then I thought about all of the times he drove me to my piano lessons, or over to Philly for my acting lessons or even for my performances. And this is random... but I thought about all of the times he would shake the car back and forth and sing at the top of his lungs (I used to be so embarrassed!) 😂 And then I think about how great of a Grandfather he is to my Diva! I’ve truly been blessed to have the best Dad in the whole world. And sometimes I find myself mirroring his actions, especially when it comes to saving wild animals... but that’s a whole other story.
