The past few weeks have admittedly been difficult - I haven’t been able to fully put my finger on one specific reason, rather it has been a combination of feeling like I am spinning out while also being hyper aware to what life would have been like right now. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That’s the thing about 2020, what we envisioned for this year has changed for all of us - we have been challenged to adapt and flex, we have faced the reality that despite best laid plans we can’t control the path life takes us down. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today I had two speeches, both of which I spoke about resiliency. The truth is resilience doesn’t have anything to do with the speed in which we bounce back, but rather comes in the showing up - regardless of how long it takes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Admittedly I have fumbled through the past few weeks, almost like March boomeranged back and smacked me straight in the face. Feeling the emotions that come with the realization that I would have been returning from Tokyo and starting a chapter in my life I have long yearned for. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We all know this feeling, the mark of a day or time frame that is different than we anticipated due to the changed circumstances this year has brought. And while I know that within it all we will grow, becoming stronger as a result of this experience- it’s also okay to say this sucks. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For anyone who needs to hear it - just know that this season, this rough patch, this period of uncertainty - it will pass. You have made this far and I am certain you have faced plenty of battles prior - so give yourself grace and keep showing up. Each day, show up and soon those days will turn to weeks and weeks to months and you will look back and know that you didn’t just survive, but you grew and became stronger as a result. This week marks 3 YEARS of plays from Patalog Theatre! Tracking back to June of 2017 with our production of ‘Mojo’ by Jez Butterworth, through to May 2018 with ‘The Pillowman’ by Martin McDonagh, and then more recently ‘Tusk Tusk’ by Polly Stenham (pictured) and ‘Punk Rock’ by Simon Stephens, both in 2019. We’ve missed live performance these past months very dearly, and hope that everyone is staying well and safe in these rapidly changing and often stressful times. Thank you to all the glorious artists we’ve worked with in the past 3 years. But most of all, thank you to our audiences, without whom we would not exist. 68- This is Mel and John 💟 For them, lockdown was emotional. This photo was taken on Swedish Midsommar, a national holiday to celebrate the beginning on summer 🌺 The recently engaged couple tell me that in the previous few years they have spent this holiday with John’s family on Sweden. Naturally, it feels strange being apart from them this year. To pass the time over lockdown , Mel kept busy working out and binging Netflix, of course. John spent a lot of time playing video games with his friends (Even treating himself to a new desk and gaming chair.) This week’s artist takeover will feature alumni Berirouche Feddal! Originally from North Africa, present-day Algeria and more precisely from the region of the mountains of Kabylia, affiliated with the Igawawen of arch nath irathen and of Amazigh heritage (Free man), Berirouche Feddal (Vrirouc nat uqassi, ⵠⵔⵉⵔⵓⵛ ⵏⴰⵝ ⵓⴽⴰⵙⵉ) is a Montreal-based artist known for his multidisciplinarity. He explores themes of historical violence, personal memories and religious symbolism. Refusing to abdicate his culture, his language and his identity, the artist exploits subjects related to his personal history and background using anecdotes, sometimes revolt and exploring various mediums. He obtained his BA in Print Media from Concordia University in 2020. Tracing his Algerian Berber origins through the use of biographical photographs, he blends past and present in bodies of works that could be understood as fragmented self-portraits, evoking the fragility of memories and the mark left by our past experiences. Почти все отношения между людьми начались с того, что кто-то не побоялся вступить в разговор с кем-то другим и удачно пошутил. Шутка, понятная обоим, превращает семейную ссору в совместную ржаку и разрешает многие вопросы. Чувствуешь, что назревает конфликт – меняй тон и переводи все шутку. 2) Временное одиночество. Лучший способ не сойти с ума от близости и не задолбать друг друга (особенно во время карантина) – проводить несколько часов порознь. Изолироваться в другой комнате, закрыться в туалете или погулять в одиночестве. В эти часы не трогать и не доставать другого человека. Через некоторое время он сам перезагрузит мозг и соскучится. 3) Улучшения себя. Когда человек учится, развивается, строит карьеру, бизнес или хобби (короче, живет полной жизнью) – он постоянно интересен и востребован, а когда нет – он наскучивает и обесценивается.
