“How I like to stay active is by going on long bike rides around my neighbourhood or even downtown. I also love to play tennis, volleyball and basketball and have been alternating between these four activities during the quarantine period. I’ve never been a fan of working out at home but have found a new passion for it during this time. Through this quarantine period, I realized how significant my time was in my Kinesiology program as it taught me to be self-sufficient and stay active, developing workouts at home for myself and just continuing to find ways to make myself stronger. I’ve been focusing a lot on myself and just enjoying my time during quarantine, which is a nice change from the school work. Intramurals has made a significant impact on me during undergrad. I had been playing intramural volleyball, both for the Co-Ed and women’s team throughout my four years in undergrad. It’s really hard to make friends in a new environment and I’m sure many people can attest to that. However, through intramurals, I’ve met so many great people! By participating in intramurals, I was able to grow, meet new friends, develop my social and leadership skills and just learn to enjoy my time. It was a worthwhile experience where I wouldn’t mind spending some of my time to go out and play. Looking towards the future, I hope we can resume intramurals and meet our friends once again in a safe manner. I will be coming back to U of T to start my masters program and can’t wait to go back to those exciting nights. I’m really missing the thrill and excitement of playing with my teammates in the competitive and fun environment so I’m looking forward to that once we get back. A couple months ago I realised that I have stopped taking selfies because I get too conscious about it some or the other feature of my face looks weird and now I’m so comfy doing videos that I’ve become almost awkward taking pictures. Tips for new incoming nursing students👩🏻‍⚕️💉 ••• 1. Don’t be so hard on yourself! — You’re going to feel like you don’t know anything and that’s okay!! Throughout my 1st semester, sometimes I felt like everyone around me knew what they were doing and had everything down while I felt absolutely clueless... Chances are most of them feel the exact same way as you! You’ll see that everyone is struggling together and it’ll feel reassuring knowing that most of you guys are on the same boat. ••• 2. Blurt out the answer (respectfully😝) even if you think it isn’t correct! — Your professors and clinical instructors want to see that you’re trying to work your brain because critical thinking is one of the key aspects of nursing. I’m a shy person in general and I was never really comfortable saying the answer out loud, but I really pushed myself to change that (still working on it😅) ••• 3. Take every opportunity in the hospital to practice your skills during clinicals!! — I also cannot stress this enough but please do not take clinicals for granted😭 I would have never expected a pandemic to take away our clinical hours. Put yourself out there by asking the nurses/CNAs/PCTs if they need help with anything and show them that you’re eager to learn🩺📚 ••• 4. Do not procrastinate!! — You’ll have countless assignments/exams back to back and it’ll feel overwhelming. Learn how to prioritize! Studying little by little each day will be a lot better than cramming the night before an exam. Also if you have extra time, it doesn’t hurt to get ahead on some of those assignments too🤓📚 ••• 5. Self care is still important and always will be!! — Please take some time for yourself and de-stress when you need to. You’ll definitely need a break from all that studying and I promise that you will find some time to do so. This is what my training looks like these days... Im ALWAYS training. Every time I eat is an opportunity to train the peace I want with food. Every time I workout is an opportunity to train the love I want for the gym. Every minute of everyday is an opportunity to train myself into the person I wish to become. Get it? I was once like you. I thought: Once I found the right diet, then food would be easy. Once I found the right workout program, then Id love the gym. Once I had the body, then Id be happy. Once I was the best at something, then Id feel worthy. Talk about a recipe for disaster, and a life of pain and frustration.😬🔫 The way you FEEL on a daily basis is a pattern. Its been trained in the nervous system. And that pattern is what drives the actions you take and dont take. A diet may tell you WHAT to eat, but it doesnt actually GET you to eat that way because it doesnt change your PATTERNS on the inside. Feelings of fear, anxiety, frustration, etc will drive you to eat the shit foods, hate the gym and prevent the body from burning fat because a stressed body doesnt burn fat. My main pattern is anxiety. I picked it up from my childhood as my mom and family were very anxious people. As soon as I start to feel anxious, I turn to food. Its programmed in me and no diet or workout program in the world will change that for me. To change the pattern, I had to RE-TRAIN it. Im constantly training myself to spend less time in the anxiety, fear, & frustration and spend more time in the states Id like to know: calm, peace, love, joy, etc. When I feel peace and calm, food is never an issue. When I feel love, motivation for the gym is never an issue. The work is done inside, not outside of you. This is why I have my clients follow an Inner Training plan, just as much as a food and workout plan. When you train yourself to feel peace with food and love for the gym, having the body you want is easy. If youre tired of working harder and getting nowhere, and would like to not spend the rest of your life in frustration, comment below with ME. I’ve been slowing down and taking more care of myself lately. Biggest accomplishment ever in life! I can’t believe out of 943 applicants I was 1 out of 35 students accepted into LSUHSC’s PA program. Some may know, I decided to go back to school In 2016 to pursue this dream while still having my business in the wedding industry. Through the past 5 years, I’ve had many late nights, tears, and doubted myself. But with the support of my family, friends, and clients I can finally say... WE DID IT! I respect all religions. Religious freedom was the foundation of our country. 🇺🇸 I loved growing up LDS (Mormon). I once went to EFY twice in one summer, which is basically church summer camp. I was a Book of Mormon nerd and loved to be obedient. I grew up valuing family. And loved learning about Jesus. And Jesus taught me about unconditional love. Love with no conditions meant everyone, no matter what. So it didn’t make sense to me when I saw how members of the LGBTQ+ community were being treated. And it didn’t make sense that there was this whole piece of myself, being attracted to women, that was there before I ever liked boys too. And that it was considered worse than murder. Yes, I was told that being LGBTQ+ was worse than murder. And that was God’s word. But once upon a time, being Black was also a mark of sin in the LDS church. Black people were not allowed to hold the Priesthood (the Power of God) or hold positions of authority in the church. And now the church admits this was in fact not God’s will. I see a future where LGBTQ+ members of the LDS church are held to the same standards of chastity as heterosexual couples. This is not because I do not respect religious freedom, but because it was those who came before me, who stood up for inequality, that changed the narrative for racial inequality in the church, and I stand for sexual equality in the church. I still believe that Jesus is the son of God with my whole heart. And he had room for everyone in His Kingdom when He walked the earth. With Miss World Canada one month away I couldn’t help but look back on how much I’ve accomplished in my life and how much has changed since my reign as Miss Vancouver World 2020 Looking through old photos I found one picture in particular of myself wearing a crown at Disneyland, I think I was seven at the time. If I could tell myself 14 years ago that I was going to be in this position right now I would tell her to keep shooting for the stars, take risks, and learn from your mistakes. I think the reason why life doesn’t come with any guidelines is because it’s up to us to figure out what it is on our own. This past Monday I had my final event as Miss Teen Houston Latina 2019... I still can’t believe the reign ended.
