Been feeling trapped & alone with smoke filled skies so before another week of distance learning starts up again, we took the scenic road to the beach and stopped for a pizza. The air on the coast wasn’t much better, but for an hour we ran free. The cool water was clear and clean, and we pretended to be monsters while we chased the kids in the waves. А так же предусмотреть эту комнату для одного ребёнка и для двух. Hi friends, I wanted to share this illustration and try to be a bit personal with you even though Instagram isn’t the easiest platform to be personal on, long captions are not popular, it’s called “insta” after all😌But I will give it a try anyway. I recently created this piece as a celebration to the importance of art & books that are inclusive & share stories from groups that sometimes are forgotten. - Something that is personal to me are books that cover the refugee subject. More closely kids books that talk about refugee kids or minority kids facing racism in the country they now live in. - Oh how I would have needed a kids book on this subject when I came to Sweden as a refugee when I was young. - The racism and loneliness I was faced with in the small Swedish town led me to the library desperately looking for books on the subject. - But the librarian and I couldn’t find anything that described what I was going through, and there wasn’t anything to order from bigger libraries either. To this day I remember the total hopeless feeling. (Oh and because of how the climate was and at times definitely still is, It was expected to always show gratitude for getting to live there and be careful to not express anything else than gratitude. So it took me a long time to even get the courage to ask the librarian for a book that could help me.) - So, I feel strongly about this, art, books and stories can create changes. I hope that what I’ve written makes sense, writing is not my forte, I am not an author. But I try to do what I can in my profession as an illustrator and artist. As well as daring to share my experiences like the one above, even though it’s scary. These are my small humans, even though they’re not so small anymore. They’re a ton of work and I don’t think I’ve actually slept a night since 2008 (I think I rest with my eyes closed at best) since I can hear a foot hit the ground anywhere in the house during the wee hours. 22 months apart each. That means at the girls’ first birthday parties I was all “awww, she’s not a baby anymore,” and then had another, and another (the boy who wishes he had a brother - sorry, dude), and then hold up. That’s a brood of small humans. 🌿 Like I said, they’re a lot of work, and I love them fiercely. I’m not one of those “This is so easy, I’m so organized, I make sweet potato fries from my composted garden” kinda moms. I’m gonna be real here. Bless you if you are and power to you. You can watch me let my kids eat out of the tub of Nutella with a spoon from time to time. 🌿 It’s fascinating to hear and see these three grow into *people* right before my eyes and under my nose every day. They’ve got likes, dislikes, aspirations, strong opinions and each has a will of steel. They’ve also got each other’s backs. 🌿 I’m not good at relaxing. I suck at kicking back. But I’m making myself do it, because moments like these are few and far between but if I put in the effort, I can stretch them out and suspend time. 📷 The beach (not the Jersey shore) - anywhere south of Virginia - is where it’s at for me, and there we were this summer. Невероятно, сколько эмоций я получила всего за несколько дней и сколько всего увидела... временами это был небольшой стресс, путешествовать с детьми без машины всё-таки сложно, передвигаться на такси, Эми по-прежнему по вечерам без дневного сна капризничает(судя по поведению в поезде сейчас - не только по вечерам🤪, хорошо, мы без соседей)? но я не стала бы ничего менять, мы встретились с родными, погуляли по городу, по набережной Волги. Долгие разговоры и разные истории, которые не расскажешь по телефону🤪 Теперь я готова снова в бой.
