I can count on *one hand* the number of times I was able to stop at 1 drink, and the majority of THOSE times were because I was too brutally hungover to continue drinking without projectile vomiting. So I get the impulse. And I get the need to try to joke about it so it seems less scary. Because it really IS scary; realizing you have no control over the amount of drinks you have in one sitting. I mean, OP is straight-up saying they don’t want more than one but are binging anyway! What does that mean? What does that tell you about your relationship with booze? What do you have plenty of right now? This past weekend my husband preached on the feeding of the 5,000 and told us that sometimes we have to focus on what we do have, not on what we don’t have. He asked the question, what DO you have? I have been thinking about that a lot. I want to eliminate phrases from my vocabulary like “there is nothing to eat in this house,” or “I have nothing to wear,” because the reality is my pantry and my closet are full. When I feel lonely, I want to focus on the amazing people that are in my life, not the ones who have faded away. When I feel like I have no time, I want to see pockets where I have time but maybe I am wasting it. The enemy wants us to be like Philip and feel overwhelmed with what we don’t have. God wants me to be like Andrew and simply bring Him what I do have. It doesn’t always feel like much but the feeling of enough does not come from something new. The feeling of enough comes from a renewed perspective. So I am wondering. What do you have today? I thought if we started sharing what we do have, we could inspire each other in our faith. Lighthearted. Sort of. Because, we are now in a period of isolation following one of the kids developing a cough. It is highly probable that he just has a cold, but we can’t be sure and we must be careful. Like many others around the country we have been constantly refreshing our laptops and phones trying to get a bloody test. It is like trying to get Glastonbury tickets. But shitter. Today we made a 2.5 hr trip with a poorly child because there were no local options. We are some of the lucky ones, we can take time off work and we have a car. Many families will be forced to do the full isolation because they can’t get a test at all or they can’t get to a test centre. It is SO frustrating. Some nights ago I dreamt that the guy I like lost his watch in the disgusting waters of a dirty public swimming pool. He asked someone to ask me to get inside and get it for him. I didntt want, but I did it. I got out of the oily water and searched for him with the watch in my hands. But he had gone, tho he knew I had swum inside sunscreen, foams of unknown origin and wet kleenexes for him. So remember, kids. In it Misha discusses the similarities between art and literature in their use of minimal means in creative pursuits, referring to drawn works of mine, @zonamagadla and @elrpainting Misha also refers to this text work of mine from 2018, Serras List, Revised (pt. I). In the 1960s American artist Richard Serra made a list of what it meant to him to make art. The piece was part conceptual art and part a manifesto for process art. He, like many artists of his time, saw art as action, and so listed the actions that went into his sculptures: to roll, to crease, to fold, to store... Serras list was cold and mechanical, as is his work, leaving no room for motive, or failure, or aspiration, or greed, or the host of other things that make up what it is to be human. (Actually there may be room in his work for the last two.) You have just paid this person a day’s worth of your life energy. Was it worth it? Did it solve anything? Your life energy is THE most precious currency you have, and with any currency, you must be mindful of what you are spending it on. If you do not want to do something, don’t waste your energy on it. If you don’t fully want to see someone and be with them, don’t do it! You are not on this earth to sacrifice your needs in order to cater to others. Your time and energy is precious and valuable. At any given moment, check in with yourself and think: will this expand me?
