Hi all! It’s me, your friendly neighbourhood Mother of Mushrooms 🍄 Also known as Poppy Fields, The Oasis Guardian, Iona the Healer, Moth Queen etc. etc. Though I was born 25 years ago as Mia ✨ I’ve loved all things fantasy and fairy tales ever since I can remember. I used to dress myself up in costumes my mama made for me, build houses for fairies and gnomes in the backyard, draw whatever idea came to mind and created stories with everything I did. But that was years ago. And now… I find myself doing the exact same things! I have a bachelor’s degree in Illustration, love building miniatures, write and draw stories with @desburnsout and - what y’all are here for - I now design and make my own costumes! I’ve made one cosplay before (Fire Bender OC, see profile) but my heart lies with original costumes. Like Mother Mushroom and her Shroomlings! Soon I’ll post more information on adopting those little critters🍄❤️ I hope with all my heart that I can transfer this love of fantasy and fairy tales to our two children, who will be born around mid-november. ✨Cheers to the weekend✨ Today we are resting and getting some packing done again because next week we are going to Tennessee for my Grandparents 60th Wedding Anniversary! Super excited about it all! My sewing journey began when I was five years old, when my mom taught me how to make toys out of a shawl, a pair of buttons, some rope and thread. I still remember that feeling of excitement when I realized that I can create a beautiful (that what I thought) toy out of nothing. . I still chase this feeling of excitement, and thats one of the reasons I deep dived into historical costuming a couple of years ago - I wanted to make something that way out of my comfort zone. Nadie sabe nada de su paradero por 6 días cuando vuelve “SOLO” y sin recuerdos de lo que pudo sucederle. Desde ahí comenzarán a suceder cosas extrañas, comenzando a las 2:07am. ¿Lo raro? Christopher tiene un AMIGO IMAGINARIO pero... ¿y si no fuera imaginario? Amé la historia que nos presenta este libro. SWIPE FOR FRIENDSHIP While fully anticipating a ‘circuit break’ imminently which will once again curtail the very important mental health-boosting effects of being able to spend time with friends and family, my Monday night knitting group – which we started nearly 20 years ago but hasn’t met since February – became a Saturday afternoon tea group, instead, to celebrate @debracocks birthday. Has to be said that not one of us has picked up a knitting needle in six months, nor darned a garment. Somehow sitting and enjoying a convivial tea in the garden with home-made cake, flowers and my prettiest china – and most of all, chatting and catching up with six months of news – felt much less like hard work than trying to read a knitting pattern by the dim light of one of my table lamps. Buckle up, buttercup, and enjoy this long strange trip into the dark side of the psyche.... . . I may edit most of this caption in a few days because it reveals a little more about myself than I’m comfortable with some people in my life knowing if they were to stumble across my page. I have wanted to write about this topic for awhile but couldn’t find the best way to approach it until I saw the prompt “glittersick” by @penandpendulum (which is over a week late at this point.) . . After a series of “little t” traumas that triggered old “Big T” traumas, I spent several months of 2012 and patches of time in 2013 in a dissociative fog and self-destructive spiral in which I did hallucinogens (and sometimes other substances) pretty much every day under the guise of “mind-expansion” or whatever, but in reality, my world just became really fucking small and occurred almost entirely in my head because the real world had become so fucking scary. Then (buli)Mia decided to join the party too and bring snacks. For the most part, I got myself out of it without any severe interventions or consequences (no hospital or rehab, no medical issues, and so forth). I wanted to capture some of the (perceived) free-spiritedness and creativity of that time period as well as the emotional (and at times physical) hell that went along with it. “Glittersick” really captures that state of mind for me. . . Because I pretty much listened to music all day for many months, my punk rock-influenced prompts with @poem_shore fit well into this piece: my chemical romance, panic at the disco, and gorilla biscuits. I also wanted to write this piece almost entirely with pop culture references and surreal plays on word. Aside from the obvious Alice references, some other references include: Dr Seuss, Salvador Dali, Flaming Lips, the Beatles, old school dance moves, old school prescription drugs of abuse, foods popular in the ‘80s, Wal-Greens, the Simpsons, Saved by the Bell, I Love Lucy, and a few others. I also incorporated prompt “black hole” from @eunoiaprompts. . . Original image is from a website about cosplay, which I found via google. Sometimes the stars align and you create something incredible. Tonight was one of those nights! I had the pleasure of doing a live shoot on zoom for @precisioncamera and @tamronusa . I wanted to show what goes into a full production shoot, from makeup and wardrobe, to set design and lighting. We decided to do a Mad Hatter narrative for the shoot at the beautiful @theperrybelmonthouse in DC, which was the perfect location for the shoot. thank you to @jlrdistrict for being the mad hatter @toulies did the set design and flowers and completely knocked it out of the park. @jcampbell_mua absolutely killed the makeup. @pelonkey was kind enough to provide the wardrobe and costume which couldn’t be better.
