I always wanted a sister. I love my brother- hes actually one of my very best friends- but theres just something about sisterhood that I always wished for, always dreamt about. Then I became a mother: first to one daughter, then another, and watching their sisterhood grow has been fascinating to me from the beginning. Sometimes Im their peacekeeper, sometimes their third wheel. Im their audience, their cheerleader, and yes, even their referee, but Im always in awe of this amazing bond of theirs that bursts with unconditional love for each other. They still hold hands when they walk together. They have inside jokes. Theyre fiercely protective of one another. They share knowing glances and endless giggles. They fight, argue, and bicker at impressive levels, then immediately make up and are back at each others side- with some snacks and our dog in tow. I wish I would’ve have cheerleaders like this! Every door I tried to open was closed and so I set out to create on my own. Today I get to launch a little project I’ve been working on with @rachelelizabethdueck. @changeisgoodyyc is an online thrift store with 100% of profit being donated to @yycdreamcentre, the addiction recovery centre where both Rachel and I currently work. I never would’ve pictured myself working in addiction services, but everyday I am blown away by the way our clients pursue transformation in their lives. Today I went on a morning hike. The desert heat striking down on my pale skin, breaking a sweat, picking up trash, and re-applying SPF 70 every 30 minutes. 🔥 Being outside, even when it’s super hot out, I find peace out on the hiking trail. I get to let go of my problems, remind myself to stay humble, and give back to the land that continues to provide for us. Thanks to the partnership with @keepnature wild. Last week at a routine check up, we found out that our baby’s heart had stopped beating. Our beautiful little boy, Walt, was born on Friday 21st August at 4 months. We all loved him so much already and are so sad for what will not be. My new normal {my view from where I sit} ~ It’s been ages since I have posted, and lots has been happening. I got sick with Covid19 symptoms & its been very scary, the paramedics & 111 were absolutely amazing, full of kindness & care. I was very lucky to not be admitted to hospital, & somehow managed at home. My breathing is still difficult & I am still exhausted {on day 16} I know it’s going to take time. I feel very grateful indeed. All your messages have meant so much to me & so many of you have offered support, got my shopping, emergency medication, posted masks 💛. Not being able to be tested has meant I am no clearer if I am recovering from it or not. Anyway.... since the shop closed I have been looking at other ways to keep going, your vouchers & online orders have meant the world & paid for my food & bills. I am figuring out online. I am taking time to reflect, pause, I am not rushing into making decisions. Local delivery is not an option for me, as I don’t drive & there is a risk of bringing the virus into my home with a high risk family in isolation. I am at a crossroads and I am ok with that. The most important thing for me is health, health over business, maybe that’s a very privileged thing to say. When I started MoonKo I had very little, that’s not changed, we live on not a lot, we have each other, enough food, running water, a roof over our head. I am valuing the time we are having together. So many of you have lost loved ones during this. Anyway, I am very blessed. Sending you all the biggest hugs & love right now. We can rebuild. Miss Halo loves coming along for the ride while I cook these days. She watches with fascination—and of course tries to grab everything and shove it in her mouth. It means dinner prep takes twice as long, but it’s so fun to lay the groundwork for time together in the kitchen when she’s older. Now if only I could get her to do the dishes! // I posted in stories about our new @caraway_home cookware and so far we’re loving it! Each piece has a mineral-based coating that’s a non-toxic alternative to traditional non-stick materials. Plus they heat up SO much faster and require lower heat in general (yay for saving energy)! Oh yeah and they’re sure pretty, and I’m determined to keep them that way. My little family feels so complete ☺️ we’ve been busy soaking up all the newborn snuggles and adjusting to life with two kids 😳 not to mention we moved into our new house when Collette was 2 weeks old 😅 thank god my mom was in town, my husband is an expert at unpacking, and for friends that take your 3 year old for days at a time!❤️ I want to let all my beautiful clients know that i will be returning to work on 7/25!
