A Simple Act Of Wonder Painted grass installation 285m x 40m 2020 A Simple Act Of Wonder Is a public art installation and exhibition spanning across Brighton from @fabricagallery in the city centre to the suburbs of Moulsecoomb and Bevendean Co-commissioned with @brightonfestival The work celebrates connection, community and the act of storytelling. This is an aerial shot of part of three ginormous grass paintings that we installed in the centre of the community. This series of rainbow coloured walkways are separated by 2m spaces, a marking of the current restrictions of this incredibly unusual moment in time, the colours reflect the powerful ability to change, to alter our relationship with symbols, such as the 🌈, whilst from above the shapes echo an interpretation of statistics. Whilst working on this project, the story of our everyday lives turned into something unimaginable just a few months earlier. The subject matter became magnified beyond belief and we felt how incredibly important it is to celebrate human connection and community moreso in these times. Working with the local community has been an honour and a delight. We have spoken to hundreds of people, many invited us into their homes (way before lockdown) some let us shoot their portraits and some even loaned us their precious objects to be in the exhibition. The residents of Brighton of Moulsecoomb and Bevendean are a testament to our wonderful sense of human connection and camaraderie. Through this work we celebrate them and each and every human being, as we are all inherently connected. We all want to be happy to experience joy, and to share happiness is to multiply it, not diminish it. The grass has delighted in the effects of downpours and intense sunshine, but the rest of the public installations are still visible.
