I’m still in shock. I can’t believe I’m taking time off work, buy hopefully it’ll preserve a job for myself along with thousands of others. I know long term I can’t live without flying. For now tho, I’ve decided to pay it forward! To a company that has LUVed and taught me to LUV. To a company that I believe in. To a company I KNOW will make it through these tough times. Starting September 1, I will be grounded for 6 months. I hope to travel a bit and see some friends, visit some sites, and most importantly stay healthy. That’s all I hope for you all as well. Wether you’re in the industry or not, no matter what your situation may be-we’re in this together. We’ll make it through this, until then, fly safe and thank you. This is what happened with ShopKeep: The pictures above are of Shopkeep collecting a loan balance of $14,110.66 from our account over the course of 17 transactions in one Friday evening. (Full pics are in stories.) We have been using Shopkeep’s POS services since we opened in October of 2015. We have never missed a payment. A few years ago, we took out a loan with them and paid it back in full. Last year, we took out the same type of loan where payments are made through small percentages of customer transactions. When the pandemic hit in mid-March, I (now alone at the shop) was forced to expand our online offerings with Shopify, a different POS company. No payments could be made physically in the store. It was not safe. At that point, Shopkeep did not offer any online capabilities and wouldn’t until April 28th, at which point I had already been selling online for six weeks and had been doing the One-Stop Contactless Shop of the Highest Order for 5 weekends. If I did not expand my shop on Shopify we would have permanently closed. Period. We reopened our doors on July 11th, 2020. Apparently, Shopkeep took note and tried to contact me around that time solely via my personal cellphone at a time when I was incredibly busy. They never once called the store or sent an email discussing renegotiation. They claimed I disappeared, but I was still paying them for a monthly membership. Because they saw I was taking payments through a different POS system (the same one that is currently saving my business through the v current pandemic), 12 days after we ‘reopened’ they decided it was correct to take out the entirety of the loan in one evening: $14,110.66. This obliterated my account. I called them right away and could not get through. I called them a second time, hours later, and a person on the phone directly spoke with the the capital department who told them to tell me to email them at capital@shokeep.com. I emailed them. I called again after the weekend. The person on the phone spoke with the capital department who told him to tell me they had seen my email and would respond to it. At the Tour de France, when you’re not doing ‘your job’ you’re essentially an extra pair of hands. Which typically means being out on a mountain somewhere helping with an extra feed dressed to STAND OUT (deffo do in this gear👆) so your riders spot you. Today I was on the Port de Bales climb. Such a privilege to be so close to the action ✅. Although you still need to focus as can be prettt intense to make sure you get your bottles away. Only downer is often in the mountains, as was today, there was zero reception, so aside from seeing the race go past over about a 20minutes period from the leaders to the back, It still took another 30mins to get off the mountain after I had been picked up and only then do you get reception. We love following our members journeys, its what really inspires our week. Were excited to introduce you to one of our recent members, Valerie. Valerie has already ticked off multiple milestones and is on track to complete Run NZ by this time next year, wow. Go Valerie! I am currently training for the Hawkes Bay Half Marathon, having run it last year, I really enjoyed it and thought it would be good to do again. Obviously Covid got in the way of the original date (May 16), and its now hopefully still going ahead on 19 Sept. So many of my runs and trail runs are to build mileage for that. Generally I run with my Border Collie X dog, Jed. He is both a motivation to get out and run, but is also part of the reason some of my runs arent that quick ... we do have to stop for him to water an occasional tree or bush!! Mind you, when I am in the forest running the trails, he is off lead and gets to sniff as much as he wants. He is one lucky pooch. Weve recently learnt that unfortunately the Hawkes Bay Marathon has been postponed until next year. Were hoping youre doing okay Valerie, we know youre keeping motivated and were thinking of all the events that have needed to postpone this year. “Don’t we always find a way to carry on” 🎵 in video by @brandicarlile (my fav artist!!). And could not be a better theme for my 16 mile run today on the Olympic Peninsula!! I knew I had to get these miles in to train for my first marathon on Oct 3rd for Forrest Stump’s advocacy campaign #WeJustFeltLikeRunning, but the smoke and fires 🔥 in the PNW have created some major air quality hazards in Seattle! I tried to find a way to run inside at my local YMCA and my apartment gym but every option I had was closed due to COVID-19... a double whammy!! So thanks to my number one @natharold we found a way to carry on! A respirator and a drive out to the Olympic Peninsula later and we found a beautiful, remote 16 mile stretch for my run today. I’ll be honest, it hurt. It was a struggle. The longest run in my life so far, complete with a hot and nasty mask that spewed sweat all over my face and arms. 😝But thankful all the same to be able to breathe safely and do so in one of the most beautiful areas of the country. Wishing all those impacted by the fires strength, health, and safety to continue to carry on through one of our toughest years. 2020. We can do this. P.S. I am learning to love and honor my body, and Ive got to be honest, some days this is easier than others. I have days when I look in the mirror and really like what I see, where I feel cute, and powerful and strong. Other days, I look in the mirror and think that I need to lose 10 lbs and feel like I should have more muscle definition. I have days when I eat things that I know will make me sick because they taste good, days when I choose gentle yoga because I know its what my body is craving, and other days when I push myself to work out even though I know I need to rest. But even when I go astray I continue to return to my commitment to honor my body. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As a Black woman, I receive so many messages that my body is not okay and that my Black woman body is not worthy of love, respect. Because of these negative messages and the violence inflicted on Black bodies, I see honoring our bodies as a core component of self-compassion. Honoring our Black bodies is an active way to counter the negative messages and violence we experience as Black people. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Showing gratitude to my body is one of the ways that I honor it. So many of us, particularly women, are socialized to complain about our bodies and focus on things that we want to be different about the way we look. First day back at work after 9 days off…send coffee! On my current rota we get a week off after working a weekend of night shifts, and I took 2 extra days off as annual leave. I had high hopes of achieving big things over those 9 days. In fact, I achieved relatively little. The simple reason is because I’m completely burnt out at the moment. Over the last few weeks I’ve been looking around the hospital and I see people similarly flagging. Many look like they’ve lost their spark. Whilst I wasn’t really in the thick of ‘the covid thing’ like a lot of my amazing colleagues & havent been through the traumatic things that may other people have faced, it’s been a relentless, often tense few months. But I know that those of us working in the healthcare profession are often not the best at looking after ourselves. And we’re certainly not good at admitting it to those around us which is why I feel the need to highlight this issue. So, I’m not talking about my burnout to moan or to ask for your sympathy. And I know there are a lot of people in much worse positions that I am right now. And I also know that I have more time off coming up to rest & recharge. But I know there are a lot of people out there who feel the same as I do. I think its important to talk about real-life and I dont just want my instagram feed to be a polished highlight reel. Burnout is real. Not just in the healthcare field. You don’t always have to be productive. It’s ok to admit that you’ve had enough. It’s ok to take some time for yourself. #2020septemberstories Jumping onboard this sharing journey ;) Q: What have you been doing to still be doing yoga during circuit breaker and phase 1? What has the journey been like for you? A: The best part of zoom yoga classes is that I can ogle at other peoples kitties! Many yoga peeps have fur buns who join in the classes, or tobie will descend to my world to the delight of his fans. Being an introvert, zoom classes are a 2 way sword. While I totally enjoy the solitude, I also felt like I was slowly detaching from the real world. So its nice to say hi and bye at the end of classes or carry our fur kids to the screen to wave bye. Or just have zoom chats without the workout. Eventually, when I attended my first physical class in phase 2, it was with anticipation and anxiety at first but I appreciated the comeraderie and the shared space more than I expected. ;) A simple thank you to everyone on and off zoom, who shared a class or just words. It has been nice to meet you all! I’d do anything for these @catcafelounge kittos 😻. When COVID brought the world to a halt I just couldn’t stop, because rescue doesn’t stop. Now I’m trying to save CCL.
