Years ago, we were committed to celebrate the Indonesian Independent Day with giving a special day to our nearly ocean. This year, we celebrated it in a silent due to pandemic condition in Indonesia. No ceremony, no games with the staff, No hingar-bingar. But we still wanted to give something to mother ocean. So we came up with an idea to do underwater clean up in our LATC House Reef with very few people. We were pretty happy because there was not so many plastic bag like before but we found a quite big kite that stuck on the coral table, and a loooong fishing line that tangled on the planted corals. We hope next year, our ocean will has less and lesser plastic litters and also crossing finger this pandemic could be end soon so we can get back to the absolute normal life. Amen . . En sus palabras: 🐙Después de ver con impotencia lo que ha sucedido con el pez luna la pasada semana en Almería quisiera aportar mi granito de arena con las medusas. Es cierto que las medusas rosadas o medusas clavel (Pelagia noctiluca), las que vemos normalmente en nuestras costas son muy urticantes, sin embargo otras especies son prácticamente inofensivas, de belleza sin igual, y sirven de cobijo a pequeños alevines de peces. Quiero crear concienciación para la gente que las vea, que por favor NO LAS SAQUEN DEL AGUA, que si pueden naden con ellas y disfruten de la majestuosidad del mar. Son ejemplares totalmente inofensivos, por favor déjenlos en su hogar. 🐟Primero, os presento a la medusa Rhizosthoma luteum; la reina del mediterráneo y la mas grande de todas. Puede llegar a pesar 40 kilos y medir 2 metros de largo. 🐟🐟Segundo, os muestro a la medusa comúnmente conocida como huevo frito (Cotylorhiza tuberculata). French marine biologist Louis Marie Auguste Boutan poses for the camera in what is one of the first ever underwater photographic portraits; 1899. Despite this incredible feat the first underwater photograph known was actually taken by an Englishman by the name of William Thompson in Dorset in 1856. Thompson didnt actually dive to take his photograph. Instead, he lowered his housed plate camera to the seabed in Weymouth Bay and operated the shutter from a boat anchored over the site. For Louis, with his engineer brother Auguste they developed several types of underwater cameras and equipment. The camera was a rectangular metallic box fitted with specialised lenses and plates fixed to a tripod. External controls were used to adjust the shutter, and a rubber balloon was manipulated to adjust buoyancy as needed. In using his camera he found the images were cloudy. To remedy this, he added blue-colored glasses to the interior of the waterproof camera box to act as filters for greater clarity. - @lookthroughhistory on Instagram

Spot - Vapor do Trigo Location - Berlengas Located in a sheltered spot near the UNESCO Nature Reserve of the Berlengas Islands, the Vapor Do Trigo wreck (also known as the Andreos wreck) is a dive site that can be accessed even when the conditions are rough. The area surrounding the boiler room is inhabited by large lobsters and Conger eels. There are lots of interesting holes and cracks to explore along the hull, which is still very much intact. You’ll spot solo Snappers hovering around as well as schools of them close by, and lets not forget to mention a truly impressive spectacle, thanks to the merging of several different currents, of the one and only Sunfish! Spot - Almonda Location - Alcanena The spring of the Almonda river (or Olho do Moinho da Fonte) is located on the southeastern ridge of the Serra de Aire, Torres Novas anticline resulting from, among others, contact between the Estremenho Calcário Massif and the less permeable soils of the basin of the Tagus. This karst spring is the exsurgence of the underground hydrological network of the most extensive national karstic system. The Almonda grotto has an approximate development of 10km, with an extensive network of underground, fossil or active galleries. Due to its complexity and size, its exploration and documentation is yet to be completed. Although the spring is permanent, it is only possible to dive on dry season. It is possible to go trough 1000mts of galleries and a drop of -78mts. In the rainy season, it is impossible to penetrate the system at the source due to the strong current and flow rate. We have focused on bubble grades, and it is still commonly accepted that high bubble grades after diving correlate with a higher risk for DCS. We found that high-intensity interval training up to two hours before the dive seems to reduce bubbles after the dive, while exercise after a dive increases bubble grades. It is important to understand that being a “high bubbler” is one risk, but the personal risk increases if the diver has right-to-left-shunting pathways. The best known of these shunts is a patent foramen ovale (PFO), but we have also shown that people can have lung shunts, also called intrapulmonary arteriovenous anastomoses (IPAVAs).
