Read @draaxula poem, Detroit, for this week’s episode below. A long, long time ago, I learned self-expression within the smoky darkness of filthy, Detroit warehouses. I’m sure the drugs helped, but the dark haze amongst souls, the strobing lights, flow art and 1 million watts of sound rearranged a few boundaries. As I looked around and watched tens of thousands of free spirits, something clicked deep inside. No one fucking knew who I was. I took reassured comfort in this. At first, I closed my eyes and let my soul connect with rhythm and then my spirit woke up. I could feel my feet and arms count; four, eight, twelve, repeat. I found my own grid, I moved in my own world, I became my own beat. Fascination took hold. I could hear two tracks blend; I could hear it! I needed more, I needed to get lost. I did. I dove deeper and became unstuck from time like Billy Pilgrim. I have lost many thousands of hours within my own inner space and I have no regrets. Finding my fours, finding my grid, finding my limbs, finding my spirit, taught me a new language. This pure, mathematical chaos taught me love. It taught me an unapologetic self that no longer needed to close eyes in fear of judgement. Many other spirits inside, also awoke and set flame to my tongue and voice. Zig zags of sentences zipped to and fro within my mind. I ascended beyond flesh. Attitude birthed confidence, “You are in my space now.
