We are honoured to tell you about a new session of our course, Yoga for Trauma Recovery. This 7-week blended course aims to create a safer healing space that is exclusive to Black, Indigenous and People of Colour. Participants are invited to explore presence and embodiment on their healing journey through gentle Yoga and shared connection. Nicole Brown Faulknor (@wounds2wings) is a local Black wellness and mental health leader, and has trained in the Trauma Centres Trauma Sensitive Yoga. Shes actually taught this course through QSY seven times over the past couple of years, but after envisioning this BIPOC-exclusive iteration back in the early summer, its finally here. This course will run on Mondays at 8:00pm from Oct 26 to Dec 7, and is offered both in-person and online with synchronous live sessions. Every spot in this course is available at sliding scale rates. There is an optional group therapy add-on. This course will be funded by the proceeds of the Sweat-A-Thon for Racial Justice on October 10. The Sweat-A-Thon will be hosted in partnership with @juiciyoga, taught by all local BIPOC instructors @jyotigini, @carla.beharry, @selamdebs and @wounds2wings. Help us spread the word so that folks who want to take this course can get registered, and so that folks who want to sweat it out at the fundraiser can come out and support. Infinite Multisport is a Triathlon Team based in Detroit Metro area. They have 525+ members from every age, background, speed, ability, etc.. with plenty training for their next Sprint or Olympic Tri and others focusing on Half and Full Iron distances, along with plenty of 5K’s to ultra-marathons, mountain bike and gravel races, 10K swims, and everything in between, thrown in as well. 🏊🏼♀️🚴🏻♂️🏃 @infinitemultisport began in October 2005 with 5 friends at a kitchen table and have grown to the largest Triathlon Club in Michigan. The camaraderie between members is one of the best aspects of the team with everyone willing to help out with events, training, gear and more. They host training options daily throughout the year and focus races monthly along with one “Swarm” race each year – in 2019 Infinite had over 185 members finish the Traverse City 70.3, with 8 qualifying for the 70.3 World Championships, and have another 210 signed up for 2020. In August their annual picnic and kid’s triathlon hosts 85 little ones racing– from age 2 to 13 – and everyone goes home with PowerGels stuffed into their goodie bags, so Infinite “starts them early. 😄A favorite of our athletes has to be the Cola PowerGel Shots – great taste and nice caffeine kick for late in the race!” Infinite have proudly been with PowerBar since at least 2008! Join Maurya Kerr, next Friday for ballet. • • • • • Maurya’s ballet class encourages care, creativity, curiosity, expansiveness, failure, fluidity, generosity, investigation, love, mastery, musicality, personal investment and responsibility, rigor, risk and sweaty joy. • • • • • Maurya Kerr is a Bay Area-based choreographer, educator, performer, writer, and the artistic director of tinypistol. She was an ODC artist-in-residence from 2015 to 2018 and holds an MFA from Hollins University. Her thesis focused on how systemic racism denies black and brown people access to wonderment, and her choreographic work is an extension of reclaiming birthright to wonder. She was a member of Alonzo King LINES Ballet for twelve years and teaches extensively in their educational programs. She most recently performed in The Foundry’s Deep South, and BodyCartography Project’s felt room at SFMOMA and the University of Minnesota’s Weisman Museum. Am Mittwoch fand zwar vorerst der letzte Pilateskurs statt, aber da diese Kooperation mit @sonja_ising_ einfach super verlaufen ist, kann ich schon jetzt verraten, dass es schon im September eine Fortfolge geben wird und wir auch 2021 Pilates am Dülmener See wieder anbieten werden und dürfen. Somit sagen wir „Danke für die tolle Zusammenarbeit der letzten zwei Wochen“ und freuen uns um so mehr auf die kommende Zusammenarbeit. Dieser Dank gilt zugleich auch dem Werbe- und Marketingkopf hinter all den schönen Fotos, den vielen Zeitungsartikeln und auch nicht zuletzt dem WDR Bericht im Fernsehen sagen. Danke @marcomaribello. It is apple day! 🍎 🍏 🍎 Today I am humbled to join a group of women growers across the country who teamed up to share everything apple. There are cider makers, homesteaders, farmers, bakers and enthusiasts sharing their apple expertise with you. There is a giveaway of some excellent apple related books and materials. I figured this would be the best image to kick off my #appleday2020. I’ve only been tending apple trees for the last eight years but I’ve learned so much since we moved to @howehillfarm. This photo is from my first big prune our orchard back in the spring of 2012. The trees hadn’t been tended in years and they were very overgrown. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos, got a pole saw and spent about a week whipping the orchard into shape. I’ve improved my technique in the last eight years and now have an electric pole saw (pulling an extension cord through an orchard is not ideal 🤣). I received high praise from a neighborhood tree expert when said how nice the umbrella shape and branch spacing was and asked who I hired to prune the orchard. When I told him I do all the pruning he offered me a job on his crew. I politely declined. Pruning trees is HARD work. I’ve fallen off a few ladders in my day. Sonic the Hedgehog was a wonderful way to end our summer outdoor movies! We were able to enjoy the cooler weather at Swift-Cantrell Park and take in a fun movie! The party started before the movie with Bach to Rock providing some live music for our event attendees. It was a great start to the evening! Earlier this week, I got to lead an all-ages Yoga + Mindfulness session for some of the families of the @harvardgradcommons and it was a joy. ✨☺️✨ Teaching movement and meditation (and even pranayama) to kiddos lights me up, because they have no sense of “I can’t” or “why bother” or “I haven’t instantaneously achieved at this so DUMB, DONE.” They come with smiles and an easy ability to work at whatever level their little bodies happen to be. Hands can’t find the earth? Okay, I’ll just bend my knees some more. Breath won’t slow to a four-count? Okay, I’ll just count to three. No ego, no shame, just an excitement to explore their own experience at that very moment. And it’s such a good reminder to me to enter my own practice in the same way. . While we do our best to raise awareness as a Foundation, our community also plays a key role in awareness raising for the cancers we support. In early September, to assist with fundraising and awareness raising efforts, and to show support and solidarity for a recently diagnosed community member, @gymnasticssouthaustralia purchased Pancare Foundation Purple Awareness Ribbons for each individual athlete participating in one for their competitions. The Hudson Valley String Quartet and Fiddle Frenzy Play for the Pine Island Chamber’s Scholarship Fund Saturday, October 10 2pm in Pine Island Park The Hudson Valley String Quartet and Fiddle Frenzy will play a fundraising concert for the Pine Island Chamber of Commerce’s Black Dirt Scholarship Fund on Saturday, October 10th at 2pm (rain date Sunday, October 11th at 2pm) at the pavilion in Pine Island Park. String music lovers of all types and ages will enjoy a lovely afternoon’s entertainment. Please bring your extra dollars and spare change to help replenish the scholarship fund. The “Up In Smoke Barbeque” and “The Dairy ‘O Ice Cream” trucks will be on hand. Social distancing and mask wearing are mandatory for all participants and attendees. Having your own chairs is a good idea. The Hudson Valley String Quartet was established in Warwick in 2012, and is made up of professional classical musicians who perform and teach in the Mid-Hudson Region. It feels great to be part of something really original. 🎇 On 10th October (World Mental Health Day) @lovetrailsfestival and @bemore.you are presenting the Virtual Race and Wellbeing Festival. Its an amazingly eclectic day focused on wellbeing and running with panel discussions, a virtual race, yoga, laughter yoga and more. I dont think anyone will have seen a lock down event quite like it! Ive collaborated with Sha Hussain, founder of Be More You to create a unique reflection meditation with my harp to bring the curtain down on the festival. The focus of the session will be around reliving a positive race (or life) experience and truly appreciating the journey and achievement. In a time where we are constantly striving to do more and better ourselves, we sometimes neglect to be present to the moment and spend time savouring our accomplishments. This session will be broken down into 3 segments, 1) the build up to the start of the race (or other experience) 2) stepping over the start line and reliving the journey 3) basking in the glory - all through music which Im creating especially to help visualise and remember past experiences and feelings. The festival is supported by @lululemonuk who have kindly given me some of their lovely clothes to wear while I play. Ill definitely be comfortable, which is something you cant always guarantee as a harpist 👗👠 Thanks to Sha @bemore.you for asking me to be involved. The NEW @ertnorfolk Obstacle Course at the Plum Point Park Trailhead is finally here! 💪👟👟🏁 The ‘Double Turbo Challenge Course’ features a circuit of fun and challenging elements to improve agility, muscle tone and strength. Course elements include: custom hurdles and steps, pull-up station, vertical rope net, overhead ladder and balance beams. The obstacle course also features bike racks, picnic tables, trash cans and benches.
