BUT luckily I also learned a thing or two during my WackyBox development: Apply a layer of Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline) to the black part. Leave it on for an hour or so, then wipe off. We did it twice on Sunday night, and 1x the next morning, and then it just seemed like he had too little sleep with dark circles under his eyes. Im sure youve had such ridiculous experiences too! As I’m reflecting this morning, I am overwhelmed with a realization. Yesterday was my 13 year anniversary at Ride On Bikes which is what initiated the reflection. I do my best to stay positive, but it is so easy to get caught up in the things that went wrong.... the people that have turned on me, the deals that went bad, and most of all the people I’ve lost in death. Here’s the problem.... if I focus on that, I’m missing the opportunities right in front of me. I’m not taking full advantage of the tried and true people that have stuck with me through thick and thin. I’m not fully involved in the new relationships I’ve developed. I’m not 100% dedicated to loved ones that are still alive. I am grateful for literally every relationship I’ve ever had. Each one of you have taught me something that has lead to this moment. This is a vow to remember the good times, but focus on the current good right in front of me. Thank you for being my friend at least at one time in this lifetime. CHECK OUT MY BUNS 😍 . . . Easy Vegan Cinnamon Buns! Ingredients For the yeast * ½ cup warm water, 110° * 1 (¼-ounce) package active dry yeast * 1 teaspoon cane sugar Dough * ⅓ cup melted coconut oil, plus more for brushing * ½ cup almond milk, at room temp * ⅓ cup cane sugar * 1 teaspoon sea salt * 2¾ cups all-purpose flour, plus more for kneading Filling * ½ cup brown sugar * 1½ tablespoons cinnamon Glaze * 1½ cups powdered sugar, sifted * 3 to 4 tablespoons almond milk * ½ teaspoon vanilla extract Instructions Grease an 8x11 or 9x13-inch baking dish. In a small bowl, stir together the water, yeast, and sugar. Set aside for 5 minutes, or until the yeast is foamy. Make the dough: In a medium bowl, combine the coconut oil, almond milk, sugar, and salt. Stir in the yeast mixture. Place the flour in a large bowl, then add the yeast mixture and stir until combined. The mixture will be sticky. Use your hands to roughly knead the mixture, then turn it out onto a floured surface. Knead 3 to 4 minutes until smooth, sprinkle with more flour if needed, and form into a ball. Brush a large bowl with coconut oil and place the dough inside. Cover with plastic wrap and set aside in a warm place to rise until doubled in size, about 60 minutes. Make the filling: In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon. Punch down dough and roll out on a floured surface into a 20x14-inch rectangle. Brush with 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil and sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar to within ½ inch of the edges. Starting at one of the short 14-inch ends, roll tightly into a log, then slice into 12 rolls. Place the rolls into the baking dish cut-side up, cover, and let rise for 1 hour. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Make the glaze: In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons almond milk, and vanilla until smooth. If it’s too thick, add more almond milk. I want to take a moment to publicly thank everyone who continues to follow Madelines journey. I have heard parents complain that when a child passes people often leave their page. It makes sense as I know first hand it is difficult to follow someone elses grief. Its so scary and if a click of a button can remove you from the reality it doesnt seem strange to me at all that many would choose to unfollow. Anyway, seeing that that hasnt happened and that you are all still listening is heartwarming. ❤️ It really is. So thank you. And I know Madeline would also thank you for continuing to support us- thats all she was worried about. Today I was really struggling. Its ok. This is normal. Its been 78 days since I last kissed this beautiful face. Our entire family is in grief counseling/therapy and proud of the fact that we are taking care of ourselves, functioning and somehow, in some way, managing our pain. If there is ever a way we can honor Madeline it is to do just this. I promised her we would be ok and we are working SO hard to make every day the best we can- obviously you all know where we learned that skill. While 78 days certainly doesnt make me an expert in child loss I have learned that you never want to be told to move on. Madeline grew in my body. We created her and we grew together as a family and an emotionally healthy parent or sibling will never ever move on. We will, of course, as life works, continue to wake up each day and smile and do our best to be good people and impact the world as best we can like Madeline taught us. But we dont want to move on. It is impossible for a mother and child to break their bond- even through death. She will always be with me. And thats exactly how I want it. I completely understand the thought process behind telling someone to let go or move forward but I believe our children are given to us for a reason and that Madelines work here on earth is not done as long as I continue to stay connected to her spirit and continue to spread her gift. Scrounging around in every drawer in the house, we find an old package of candles that’s browned it’s so old that spell out congratulations. Therefore TIGAR. We were so close. So close. She has worked in a warehouse for 12 years with the same pay, and without any positive outcome—just physical limitations. She has three hernias down her back. Through my performance art, I empathize with her and put myself in her conditions. My work is all about the lower class providing comfort to a higher class. My mom doesnt know that she’s the inspiration for my art, mainly because she wouldnt want me to put myself through so much for her. I keep it between me and the work, and I feel very satisfied that Im doing it for her. One summer, she got moved to a different warehouse that didnt have air conditioning. Miami summers are very hot. So I dressed in black, packed a heavy cooler, and went to where the ocean meets the sand. As I performed this piece and pushed the cooler through the sand, the waves washed away the evidence of my labor. It went unseen, like much of the labor performed by the Latino community. Now I am doing senior thesis. I have started using sound as a stimulus to the labor being performed. A month ago, I went on a men’s retreat and found a deep level of connection through our stories and challenges. Being a part of this group has been healing and empowering on so many levels, but the biggest impact is the permission I’ve given myself to feel anger. I’ve always tried to ignore, numb or resist anger. Honestly, it scares the shit out of me to feel the intensity of what’s passing through. It can feel visceral and even dangerous. It takes me to the point of being existential and can get really uncomfortable. In the past, I’d rather just smoke a joint and forget about everything in a haze. But that feeling when you hit an edge can lead to huge moments of growth, facing down similar patterns and responding in a different way. For all of my brothers out there - you’re not alone in repressing your feelings, and the connection you may be seeking can be had if you allow yourself to be vulnerable. Yesterday was a pretty big day! The kids enjoyed themselves to the fullest and it made my worrying mama heart so happy! I love their school and their teachers beyond words and am SO grateful for all of the hard work and endless effort they put into making their school The Absolute Best! .... but like... it’s still me and I thought I would share some total fails with you that happened yesterday 💀💀🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️😂👏🏻 So I packed the kids lunches the night before (I shared on stories 👍🏻 🍏) Well at around 10am I got an email from Wentworth’s teacher reading “Wentworth’s lunchbox looks really full” and remind me that it was noon dismissal!! 😂👏🏻 for some reason it made me laugh so hard!! *** I’d rather send too much food than not enough!! 💀🤦🏻♀️ I knew it was noon dismissal but my late-night-lunch-packing-self didn’t put the pieces together. 🧩 Second thing— I didn’t put lentils in Avalina’s lunch box!!!! 🤦🏻♀️💀🤦🏻♀️ Argo she only had snacks to eat all day!!! Oh my gooooosh mom of the year award right here!! She told me as soon as I picked her up and we laughed about it and I of course apologized, I couldn’t believe I did that!! I am proud of my roots and love my country.. but today I have heard terrible news that makes my blood boil & my heart break.. This young boy is Muhammad Ajmal. On Monday he was RAPED, MURDERED and HUNG from a tree behind his aunts house in Pakistan. He lived in a very small village and his killers got away as there is not too much accountability in small villages in Pakistan. They caught one of the men but there was a total of THREE MEN who did this!!! They should all be punished...the other two should not be able to get away freely. When his mother heard about this news she lost her ability to speak. His father fainted immediately upon finding this out and when he regained consciousness he immediately screamed out his sons name! 💔 THIS BREAKS ME.. & this happens a lot in villages, not just in Pakistan but a lot of other places too! Why isnt there more media coverage? Why is hardly anyone talking about this. I cant cover & spread every single story out there, but I will always use my platform to help others & to be an influencer that believes in justice. Please everyone I ask you to share this (even if its just a snap) and let the smile on muhammads face always be remembered!
