THE SHOW MUST GO ON! ...not ALWAYS. Given the current crisis, the great white way (AKA the Broadway theater district) has temporarily gone dark, leaving stars and their audiences time to think about the things that count the most - HEALTH, SAFETY, and above all, LOVE for each other. But just like Carrie Bradshaw (@SarahJessicaParker) wisely advised in the iconic @HBO show “Sex and the City,” “Don’t forget to fall in love with yourself first.” Tonight would have been the gala premiere of Neil Simon’s @PlazaSuiteBway (starring SJP), but sadly it has been postponed due to the virus. However, we’re still celebrating the stars of the play this week, starting with Sarah Jessica. Matthew (who’s worked with SJP countless times) made this 8x10 black-and-white Polaroid portrait back in 2003. According to MR this is EXACTLY how Sarah appeared when she entered his NY studio. No makeup, no hair styling, no NOTHING besides Sarah Jessica and her natural beauty (and natural STYLE). Sometimes no styling at all is terribly STYLISH! Three years since my diagnosis. Still fighting. You never know how fast things will change. It’s funny how I think about my life. In my head I have “before cancer” and “after cancer”. Whenever I think of something from before, I feel like I was 10 years old. I have to remind myself I was 16. It doesn’t feel like that though - because how was I that old and yet didn’t know anything? I hope you go gold for childhood cancer awareness month. It’s only rare until it happens to you. I always find it ironic that I received my diagnosis on September 1st. I’ve included some pictures of my “before”. I look back and notice so many symptoms but at the time they were nothing. Пленка заставляет меня думать, прежде чем снять кадр. Съемка на аналоговую камеру – это не шутки. У нее нет экранов, нет кнопки ‘Удалить’, во многих камерах нет программного режима и т.д. Для меня это самая лучшая практика, поскольку я постоянно думаю, как мне лучше согласовать ISO моей пленки с условиями освещения и поставить правильную выдержку и диафрагму. В отличие от цифровой камеры, ты не можешь пробовать разные экспозиции, выбирать разные ISO, а затем просто удалить неудачные снимки. Поэтому фотопленка заставляет тебя думать, прежде чем снять кадр. Снимать на пленку значит думать, думать и думать. А еще это всегда вопрос: ‘да или нет?’ Для меня съемка на пленку влечет за собой более серьезную работу: начиная от необходимости купить пленку до проявки пленки и печати фотографий. Проще говоря, это как традиционная живопись и компьютерная графика: традиционная живопись обычно требует больше трудозатрат. Это весело:) Вдохновение, ожидание и сюрприз! Я думаю, съемка на фотопленку – это куда более увлекательно, нежели использование цифровой камеры. Каждый раз, когда фотопленка заканчивается, ты приходишь в состояние приятного волнения. Однажды мастер по ремонту фотоаппаратов мне сказал: ‘Если ты хочешь стать счастливым в фотографии, снимай на пленку. Да, придется тратить больше денег, но что такое деньги, когда ты не счастлив’. Да, это то, что я люблю в пленке – она делает меня счастливым. Пленка передает больше эмоций. Думаю, многие пленочные фотографы согласятся с этим утверждением. Есть что-то в пленке, что добавляет эмоций и чувств в каждый кадр. Я не могу этого объяснить… Кто-то говорит, дело в зерне. Да, я, пожалуй, соглашусь… но есть еще что-то, чего не может ни одна цифровая камера… Фотопленка – настоящая, цифра – дешевая’. Думаю, я согласен с этой цитатой. Her knack for hospitality was evident, her personality a perfect fit, and the rest is history. My mum would take me to school in the mornings, but I would have to run the quarter of an hour gauntlet home after school by myself. The main danger for ten-year-old me were not the cars or lorries but the National Front skinheads. The field shrinks. Imposed regimes gradually giving way to something new, images slowly rising. A situation that can’t be simply understood, only responded to. Weeks fold into days and months, forming clumpy, uneven shapes behind you. Despite your hat telling you that you look fine, today your eyes tell you something else. That push and pull of not knowing enough whilst knowing too much seems crushing and immovable. As the restrictions ease we get a glimpse of the new world that awaits and it appears to be a very long, well-spaced queue for Primark. The strange cloud remains that you couldn’t be there were anything to happen to your loved ones bc you’re countries apart. Your last remaining grandparent is 94 and you try and reconcile with the fact you’ll never be in a room with them again. Are these realisations deaths in themselves? When every episode that makes up the future as we understand it is removed, we fall into a new kind of formlessness. A formlessness that shakes you day after day. We know there is something peaceful about emptiness, but it takes a force of mind and general agility to adjust to that with any meaningful strength. It’s not an agility that comes easy to most. For all that I am OK - a lucky one - and I don’t crave answers yet. If answers come now they’ll be built on other people’s agendas, old agendas. Agendas which have been hurled out continuously from every angle, every day of this time. I crave simpler pleasures, and for the restfulness that sometimes passes to hold me a little bit tighter. - @call_super on Instagram
