If you’ve been around for a minute, you probably remember when I made a live stream of an antipete protest in Amstelveen two years ago and received about 8.000 death, rape and racist threats aimed at protesters as well as myself and just people of color and black people in general • So, I decided to file charges because racists might think themselves inviolable, but the law says otherwise and your privilege will not always protect you. Now, 25 people will be prosecuted with the trials starting from the 14th of September till the 21st (give or take a few days) • This is not incidental. As an outspoken, visible black woman journalist and columnist online harassment is almost a part of the job description. Simply our existence in spaces white racists deem to be theirs invokes hatred. I believe these cases don’t appear before a judge a lot (only remember @sylvanasimons cases a couple of years ago). But they should. Needless to say this is not my favorite pastime as I rather just do my job (or go skinny dipping). But I think it’s important to make a statement and create precedent against all forms of discrimination and online harassment basically. Not just for myself (but also, because put some respek on my name) but for those who might not get the chance to but are in similar circumstances at work, when protesting or just simply being antiracist. And to help create the society we want to live in where racial violence, verbally or otherwise against anyone is not accepted. Week 11 of MappingAtoZ: Kevo, Finland 🇫🇮 There hasn’t been an easier letter to pick a place for than K... Kevo Research Station Now this may seem like a pretty random choice to most, but for the few who have had the chance to visit know it’s magic. For me, Kevo was a place for research, albeit amateur. It was the study area of my undergrad dissertation. Spending a couple of weeks trudging though 4ft of snow, collecting data on the snow pack and the environment over, certainly left me with a lot of memories. I wasn’t sure how to represent this unique arctic environment, the map I settled on was ‘My Journey’ across this valley. Over seven days I spanned the valley collecting data at 65 locations, these are my transects and their elevation profiles between the 6th and 12th March 2016. I tried to work on some styling here that shows the routes fading into the white snowy hilltops and cutting over the icy lake surface. Er soll sichtbar machen, wie prekär die Situation von verheirateten Müttern ist, die sich oft nicht nur um die Kinder kümmern, sondern auch den Haushalt schmeißen und teils dazu noch arbeiten gehen. Ja, das ist eine ganze Menge ungesehener Arbeit und ich bin dafür, dass darauf aufmerksam gemacht wird. ABER wozu braucht es diesen überspitzen und unhaltbaren Vergleich mit Alleinerziehenden? Das Problem an solchen Aussagen ist, dass sie die Situation von Alleinerziehenden unsichtbar machen. Warum? Weil sie aus der Perspektive von verheirateten Müttern erzählen: Welches Bild entsteht da? Das einer verheirateten Mutter, deren Mann die meiste Zeit auf Arbeit ist - und da gehts schon schief. Denn: 🔥 Alleinerziehende haben eben keinen Ehemann, der arbeiten geht und Geld nachhause bringt, während sie care-arbeiten. Nein, sie haben nur das Geld, das sie selbst erarbeiten. Und leider können Alleinerziehende sich nicht teilen, weshalb sie Lohn- und Care-Arbeit nur nacheinander leisten können statt gleichzeitig.
