An iconic photograph by Mervyn Bishop taken on this day (16 August) in 1975. Prime Minister Gough Whitlam poured soil into the hands of senior Gurindji man Vincent Lingiari to mark the return of the Wave Hill cattle station to Gurindji people. It propelled significant change: an equal wages case in the pastoral industry and the establishment of the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976. This change began with the Wave-Hill walk-off in 1966, where over 200 Gurindji stockmen and families walked off the Wave Hill station in protest against working conditions. The event is important to acknowledge, as well as the histories of Gurindji people: years of massacres, abuse and children stolen by colonists across Gurindji Lands. Today marks 10 years since the release of my first solo album, ‘Without Why’. I don’t really know what to feel about the last decade, and I’m really shit at these kind of public displays, but i’m going to allow myself one second to acknowledge the fact that in that time, I’ve somehow managed to put 3 albums out independently, and have been invited to collaborate and perform within the musical worlds of incredible artists who are on whole other stratospheres to me. #OnThisDay 20 years ago, a Palestinian freelance cameraman from Gaza, Talal Abu Rahma, shot a video of a father and his 12-year-old son under fire on the Salah ad-Din Road, south of Gaza City. The boy, Muhammad al-Durrah, was mortally wounded and died soon after.⠀ .⠀ The video of Jamal al-Durrah trying to shield his son as bullets rained down on them was aired by France 2, the news channel Abu Rahma was working for. It became one of the most powerful images of the second Intifada.⠀ .⠀ The Israeli government tried to challenge the veracity of the video, with the Israeli military denying that its soldiers had been responsible. It took until 2017 for a French court to vindicate France 2 and Abu Rahma, ultimately upholding their libel case against Philippe Karsenty, a French media commentator who had accused them of staging the video.⠀ .⠀ Abu Rahma, who has won numerous awards for his work, including the Rory Peck Award in 2001, is now based in Greece, where he, his wife and six-year-old son are residents. Aquela era a penúltima prova da temporada e a pole foi de Elio de Angelis, da Lotus. Nelson Piquet disputava o título com Alain Prost, Arnoux e Tambay e largava em quarto. Na corrida Piquet passou Mansell logo na segunda volta e assumiu a ponta após disputa com De Angelis , com direito a toque entre os pilotos. Costa Gavras zu Gast in Tübingen Im Januar 2020 wird der französische Regisseur Costa Gavras im Rahmen einer Filmreihe des Landratsamts Tübingen zu Gast sein. Vor 75 Jahren ging der Zweite Weltkrieg zu Ende. In Paris wurde am 25. Juli 1945 der Tübinger Kurt Gerstein erhängt in seiner Zelle aufgefunden. Dessen zwiespältige Biographie wird unter der Überschrift „Widerstand in SS-Uniform“ verhandelt. Drei der Film-Regisseure, die sich dieses Stoffes angenommen haben, werden im Januar 2020 nach Tübingen kommen, darunter Costa Gavras. Das Landratsamt Tübingen präsentiert die Filme von Costa Gavras “Amen - Der Stellvertreter” (2002), Claus Bredenbrock “Kurt Gestein - Der Christ, das Gas und der Tod” (2007) und Carl Svensson “Aus Schweden kein Wort - Ein Diplomat und der Holocaust” (2017) in einer kleinen Reihe am 9.Januar, 17. Januar und 28. Januar 18.30 Uhr Wilhelm-Keil-Straße 50, Tübingen In Gesprächen mit den Regisseuren wird es vor allem um die Bedeutung von Kurt Gerstein für die heutige Erinnerungskultur gehen. It’s taken me a few days to articulate the overwhelming feeling of emotion I’ve felt from the number of messages I’ve had following my Podcast from a few days ago. In which I opened up about aspects of my life that I’ve only started to understand in self reflection stemming from my desire to strive to be the best version of myself that represents my values and traits. This isn’t about being perfect and self righteous or thinking I’ll never have moments or periods again where I’ll become a Pratt and wish I’d handled events differently! But the realisation that life is not always going to be easy and there are always lessons to learn from and improve. Using my podcast as platform to voice and acknowledge past events has been liberating and rewarding! My sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to message me and I am truly touched at some of the stories people have been kind enough to share and I consider that a privilege to be able to hear other people’s stories. She is perhaps best known for the carousel that bears her name in Brooklyn Bridge Park, which she restored by hand over 27 years in her own DUMBO studio.⠀ ⠀ We are lucky to have known Jane and borne witness to her uncompromising commitment to the arts. No se, tenía 8 años cuando deje de contar cuantas veces me habían hecho esa pregunta. Me acuerdo que de pibe mi programa preferido era acompañar a mi viejo, mi hermano o al que sea a lo de Rolo, el almacén del barrio. Caminaba con ansias esas dos cuadras que separan mi casa de la tienda sabiendo que detrás del mostrador del almacén me esperaba Rolo con un grito de cancha: “QUE DICE EL HINCHA NÚMERO UNO DE LA ACADEMIA. Acto seguido metía la mano en una bolsa y sacaba un puñal de caramelos sugus. Apoyaba los carmelos sobre la mesada y si había alguno colorado lo apartaba. Me miraba y se reía los rojos son para los amargos. Me acuerdo que el primer gorro de la academia que tuve me lo regaló Patricia, la chica que ayudaba en casa con las tareas domésticas, cuando cumplí cuatro años. Ella pensó que era un gorro de Argentina ( bendita confusión ). Me acuerdo de la quiebra, me acuerdo que no tenía la más puta idea lo que estaba pasando, pero me acuerdo que Rolo me decía: de esta vamos a salir porque somos Racing. Me acuerdo que cada vez que perdíamos sentía la obligación de salir a caminar por el barrio con la cabeza en alto luciendo la celeste y blanca. Vaya a saber uno la cantidad de kilómetros que habré caminado; fueron tiempos difíciles, lo sé. Me acuerdo que la primer vuelta olímpica que di fue al jardín de la casa de un compañero del colegio al que yo había hecho de Racing. Me acuerdo la envidia de ver a mis compañeritos del primario festejando títulos semestre tras semestre. Me acuerdo de romper la puerta del ropero cuando Gigli (este lo tuve que googlear) nos empató en Córdoba allá por el 2008; a Cáceres lo putie hasta en guaraní. Me acuerdo de cruzar el puente Pueyrredón en el 2014 escuchando música clásica con Rama y Belu para aflojar los nervios previos al partido contra Godoy Cruz. Me acuerdo de muchas cosas, pero la verdad que no me acuerdo del día que empecé a simpatizar por la academia. Será que es verdad: de Racing no se hace, se nace.
