thought we’d start with a classic spicy margarita! super simple, no rim, easy-drinking ⭐️(and bonus if you include the $3 cute glass, available at target!) - 2 shots premium tequila (I use casamigos or cabo wabo usually, but jose cuervo is great!) - 1 shot patron citronge - 2 whole limes, juiced - 1/2 jalapeño, sliced - top with a splash of orange juice! muddle the jalapeños and lime juice together in a shaker. add ice, top with tequila and citronge. shake until you can barely hold the shaker! strain into glass filled with ice, and top with orange juice (fresh preferably, but any you have is great!) cheers! ✨✨ - @drinkupwithsarah on Instagram

Bai Mu Dan (or its literal translation: White Peony) is a white tea renowned for a soft aroma and delicate flavor profile. Hailing from China’s Fujian Province, this tea is made by plucking the first two leaves and bud of the tea plant. Traditionally harvested in early spring, the leaves undergo minimal processing, left to dry in the sun for up to 24 hours (also known as the withering stage). Prisons are literally crumbling infrastructure, built to handle in many cases half the capacity we as a society agree to house inside the walls. Pre-pandemic state prisons were overcrowded and ill prepared to handle the sheer volume of people, let alone the needs of these folks and their families. There is no coherent plan or principle in place as regards tbe purpose of incarceration, so how can we truly evaluate what goes on in our prisons? In Ohio we say the department is of Rehabilitatoon AND Correction - what are the actual bench marks of success given these two words? As taxpayers should we not evaluate the massive expenditures of the state? Shouldnt a mark of success be less people behind bars, rather than more people staying longer? Shouldnt it be more money spent on transformative programs and education, on staff training and edification so we can rise above us vs them, or on diversion and alternstives in the first place? What about prisoner health care and better transitional coverage after incarceration? What about bolstering mental health services to all involved? - @healingbrokencircles on Instagram

TAP ROOM UPDATE With the announcements of further restrictions to hospitality from Government this week, we have updated our operating procedures to ensure we can all keep safe & adhere to the new guidance. FACE COVERINGS Please bring your favourite face covering with you, as youll need it to move around our site,(e.g. when going to the toilet). Although we run an outdoor venue, face coverings are now required to be worn except when youre sat at your table. Please make staff aware if you are unable to wear a face mask. TABLE SERVICE Due to the new guidelines, we will be operating a table service for the bar and for @doughnco1. That means your food & drink will be brought to you, and no more queues! WEATHER We are an outdoor venue with limited cover, so please bear that in mind when planning your visit. We have been building a second outdoor shelter this week, but it wont be ready until next weekend. Due to no more queues at the bar, we now have some tables available inside the taproom - these will be very limited, two x6 people tables, and 2 x2 people tables. OPENING TIMES Our operating hours are unaffected by the new curfew rules, so we will continue to operate until 9pm on Fridays, 10pm Saturdays & 8pm Sundays for the time being. Washing dishes! Do you ever wonder how to do dishes plastic free? Well this will help you! Let’s start with the soap. I get my dish soap from @saponetti.ca or @unboxedmarket. These zero waste stores are located in Toronto. If you do not have a bulk soap store near you, then you can get a dish soap bar at health food stores. Most of these bars contain palm oil which is very, very destructive to the planet and orangutans. If you do not have access to any of these products, then you can try to use the most natural dish soap you can find and get the biggest one you can find. Now let’s move onto scrubbing. In the picture you can see that we use wood scrubbers with natural tampico fibres as bristles. You do not have to use this specific one, but you can order this one on @nugrocery or you can get a different one anywhere. You can also order the bottle brush at @nugrocery or you can find one at a health food store. Here’s a tip on how to save water while doing dishes: never run the water while washing. If you have two separate sinks then you can fill one of them up with water to rinse your dishes in. It is made from shredded fiber waste and is used in all sorts of applications (stuffing, insulation, etc). This practice has existed in textile recycling for at least a century. HOWEVER, when I started working in the industry in 2004, this seemingly mundane byproduct was becoming a huge indicator of the problems these factories were facing. The fast fashion industry was churning out clothing at an alarming rate, but the materials were mostly synthetic and so low quality that not only could they not be resold as garments, they were destroying the machines that made the shoddy. Processing used clothing is extremely labor intensive. And the volume to process was skyrocketing while the value was plummeting. This created a huge domino effect as many textile recyclers had to shut down or move overseas. It’s complicated and global and touches so many parts of our lives that you’re probably not aware of. So always, but even more in this time of upheaval, I urge you to consider your choices. No one can be perfect, but please consider vintage, second hand and slow/responsible goods whenever possible. Alectoria ochroleuca, also known as a ‘witch’s hair’ lichen, is found out on the tundra of Unalaska Island. This lichen provides food and nesting material for animals, its fibers have been used for diapers, bandages, and clothing decoration, and it was reportedly used in Russia during the 1930s to make a sugar substitute when beet sugar supplies ran low. Esta preciosa muestra es de nuestro paseo a Curacavi el martes pasado @delacuadrafelipe . Lo bonito de esta planta es su delicada forma, la manera de enlazarse entre sus mismos tallos y las ramas de otros arbustos por donde sube para buscar la luz. Esta muestra estaba al borde de una quebrada donde estaban los vestigios del paso de un incendio el año 2017. El suelo tiene memoria y solo nos muestra la resiliencia de nuestra tierra. To anyone concerned about @lp_pros LSL resilience to weather, here is an 8 month exposure comparison with southern pine. The dimensional lumber is twisted like a pretzel and full of termite holes after sitting out on the ground in the rain for 8 months. The LSL has a slight bow due to moisture expansion on the ground contact side, and the termites tried their best but couldnt get through much more than the first layer of strand. I had a roommate who eats popcorn with chopsticks to keep his fingers clean while he works on things. We didn’t have any chopsticks so he was using the back of two wooden spoons. In April I made him a pair using discarded apple wood and decorative pieces of cedar resin that I foraged, liquified, then distilled and hardened. . . . I CAN FINALLY TELL YOU ABOUT THE SECRET PROJECT I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON! I designed my first pattern 😬 . This is the #MagicalGirlCowl ✨ She is currently in testing with some awesome folks. But I’m so excited to be able to share this huge announcement. If it isn’t obvious by now I love Sailor Moon. When I look around I don’t see really any patterns related to Sailor Moon that fit what I want. So I decided why not design it?! This is a colorwork cowl that is knit in the round showcasing Sailor Moons classic scepter, and what’s a Sailor Moon cowl without tons of stars? . I knit it up in my Magical Girl colorway as my MC and Diana as my CC. This pattern is going to go live October 25th! And to make it even more exciting and fun I’m putting together bundles that will be in different weights and the pattern will be included in the bundle! I will announce bundles two weeks before the pattern launches so you can get it before it goes live. . I won’t be releasing this on Ravelry as I am not much of a user and with accessibility issues for folks I’m not messing around. Back at the farm... just rinsing some naturally dyed wool and hanging it up to dry. The speckled wool was dyed with black hollyhock flowers, marigold flowers and red onion skins. The yellow wool being dipped in the cast iron pot shows how iron modified the dye to ‘sadden’ it. Nothing sad about a nice soft green and yellow though.
