CCAD circa 1970. #CCADalumni Gary McAllister is in the middle of his undergrad years studying Industrial Design at CCAD. He came from the Appalachian Mountains of western Maryland, to the big city of Columbus, Ohio. Gary took advantage of the wide variety of courses offered to him, such as advertising, painting, ceramics, and sculpture. Shortly after graduation, Gary landed his first job at an ad agency in Washington DC. A few years later he moved to Los Angeles to work at another ad agency. But working in advertising just wasnt for Gary. He began a decades long career in freelance illustration, working with magazine publishing houses, movie studios, and ad agencies. Gary even developed a product line that he designed, manufactured, and marketed himself. Fast forward in time and Gary is now retired, living in Flagstaff, and enjoys oil painting, motorcycle rides, and hiking. Hes never stopped being a creative. - @ccadedu on Instagram

Riley was our friend, but he was everybody’s friend. He was very easy to get along with. He was kind and welcoming. He cared deeply for everyone. We got to know Riley through Power Trip, an amazing band. He would let us crash while we were on the road and we would stay up late talking about books and comics, records and Foucault, and later we were lucky enough to do two tours together. On stage, Riley was incomparable. He was commanding but he was also gentle. He would do a high kick and then say something thoughtful or witty. It was grace and gratitude and grit all in one.
