What do these three films have in common besides a wicked awesome score accompaniment? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The Rhode Island-born woman behind those sounds, Wendy Carlos. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Born in 1939, Carlos exhibited an extraordinary talent from the get-go. Per a Providence Journal article on April 6, 1979, “As a 17-year-old at St. Raphael Academy[, she] wowed the science fair with a tape-recording system using two separate hi-fi systems to demonstrate three-dimensional sound. The next year[, she] majored in physics and math at Brown University, then shouldered music composition as yet another major.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Her tenacious work ethic and ability to consume herself in work created a legend in the music industry. At 28 years old, Carlos burst into the recording scene when she released the eventual Grammy Award-winning Switched-On Bach, an album that introduced the synthesizer. The album wasn’t credited to Wendy, though, it was credited to her dead name (the name given to her when she was born and assigned male at birth). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Following the release of Switched-On Bach, Carlos left the public eye for the better part of the 1970s. She won awards during that time, always sending someone to accept on her behalf. Growing up in #turin #torino. 1986 was the last year for the career of the #lancia #lc2, unreliability and fuel consumption were made this car an unpromising choice for #Lancia. They were faster than the 962c but could not be reliable or fuel efficient. This one was on display somewhere in town and we couldnt resist taking a picture in front of it. This weeks Throwback Thursday features our 1974 Jaguar E-Type Group 44 Racing Car. In 1965 Bob Tullius founded his own racing team, Group 44 Inc. who would go onto winning hundreds of races and 10 SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) National Championships. Specifically to this E-Type, in 1975, the team won seven races, including the Road Atlanta National Finals. The teams success brought Jaguar back to Le Mans in 1984, for the first time in 27 years, with two Jaguar XJR-5 cars. 1967 Drogo Ferrari P4 Thomassima II⠀ ⠀ This is one of the defining custom-built cars that make up Ferrari’s rich history. It is included in the Ferrari Bible by Merritt and Fitzgerald, what many believe to be the history of record for all early Ferraris. The body was designed by Piero Drogo of Drogo Carrozeria Sports Cars, the famous racing driver and car-body-builder of many of the famous Ferrari and Alfa Romeo race cars. The engine used was a Ferrari 250 inside plug V12, a very rare engine. ⠀ Of three in the exclusive series of Thomassimas, only Thomassima II and III still exist. Thomassima I was destroyed in a flood, and Thomassima III is on loan at the Ferrari Museum in Modena. One of the ways to tell that this Corvette is a purpose-built race car is the quad red taillights. A regular Corvette has a clear reverse light in the center of the inner lights.
