Pictured Below: Eureka school teacher Lucretia Monroe, Arcata businesswoman Kate Harpst, Metropolitan lumber mill co-owner Mary Anne Atkinson and Eureka newspaper publisher Ella Georgeson led a 1919 barnstorming tour of Humboldt County, Calif., towns, signing up nearly 800 members for the new Humboldt County Women’s Save the Redwoods League. J-444 / 2456]... 1931 Duesenberg Model J Tourster by Derham. The Tourster body style were built exclusively by the Derham Body Company in Rosemont, Pennsylvania. A total of eight were originally produced, of which this car is the third. The original owner of this car was comedian and actor Joe E. Brown. Brown retained the car for seven years. After a few other owners, it was sold to Hughes Aircraft. The company of aviator Howard Hughes elected to remove the rear body section, in order to use the Model J to tow gliders aloft. The cars torque allowed it to launch even the largest aircraft, and it continued to serve as a test vehicle for Briegleb Aircraft after it was sold to them in 1945. Robert Straede of Santa Monica purchased the car in 1948. It then passed to Lassiter Hoyle. Hoyle sold the car in June of 1949 to Fred Buesse Jr., who kept it for 11 years before selling it to Nate Derus in January of 1960. Now missing the remaining body panels, the car eventually passed to Phil Renick and then to Lewis Landoli, who had restorer Harry Andrews reconstruct the original body. The work was completed in the mid-1970s by new owner Frank McGowan. McGowan sold the finished car to Otis Chandler who would kept the car for 10 years. The car joined the John OQuinn collection in 2007. In 2013, it came to auction at RM Auctions Amelia Island Sale where it was sold for $825,000. The Liberty Bell is known throughout the world, but few are familiar with the Women’s Liberty Bell. Known as the Justice Bell, it was commissioned by suffragist Katharine W. Ruschenberger of Chester County, PA in 1915 to be used on a speaking tour promoting a state referendum for women’s suffrage. The bell was driven through all 67 counties in Pennsylvania in the bed of a pickup truck with a banner promoting “Votes For Women” draped across the tailgate throughout 1915. Each stop included speakers, and in many cases, parades promoting suffrage. A second tour in 1920 ended at Independence Hall on September 25, 1920 when the clapper, which had been chained to the bell to further symbolize the lack of equal rights to women, was unchained and the bell was rung for the first time to mark the adoption of the 19th Amendment. Bonnie and Clyde For someone who has seen Heartbreak scars leaving people at the verge of insanity, I am a sucker for the Bonnie and Clyde love story, Its all things that I want: death and boundless love. I still remember telling you in the middle of the night under the stars, How desperately I wanted you and such a crazy love story. As much as I wished ours was one, Where youd sneak me out I the middle of the night, With no headlights, and just a pair of crazy minds, Into the deep roots of the burning flames ahead of us, Ours was a relationship so fragile, It wouldnt have survived 137 rounds of bullets, My insanity, and your quiet. I wanted to scream from the roof tops, That I finally had you, after years of desperately waiting, And that the things you do to me are the things Id forever cherish. While I stitched all these dreams, you drove us off the road, One where I was sworn to secrecy. I was like a treasure trove of information: a secret so deeply buried, That anybody who knew you, knew nothing of me. I wanted to watch soccer with your friends, And have dinner with your family on Saturdays. But on Sundays, I wanted you all to myself, So I knew how my skin felt against yours, Memorize the curve of your waist, And the way your lips taste, With your groggy voice echoing loud and clear In the darkness of the night. I wanted to dive deep into the ocean that you are, Wished youd tell me all your secrets, Even the ones you so skillfully hide, Including everything about you and I. It felt like I laid on a thousand rose thorns all at once, When I knew you had to keep secrets just to be with me. But now that Ive fallen so deep into your sea, I know no shore, And have crossed all bounds of insanity. So, tell me, Clyde, Would you run away with me, And announce it to the world, That its forever going to be just you and I? - Megha Solanki #poetry #love #poetrycommunity #writersofinstagram #poet #poem #poems #writer #quotes #poetsofinstagram #writing #art #wordporn #quote #writersofig #quoteoftheday #thoughts #lovequotes #words #writerscommunity #life #poets #shayari #music #inspirationalquotes #writers #follow #wordsofwisdom #instagram - @poetry_death on Instagram

Hank Negley taped this photo on Stan Betz’ well-known paint shop wall in Anaheim in 1981, so I snapped my own photo of it sometime in the next three decades. It’s dated “El Mirage 1947,” but this classic hiboy was ahead of its time with a dropped axle, tube shocks, filled and peaked grille shell, hot rod louvered hood, and possibly the first V-ed spreader bar (he made the one for Joe Nitti’s car, too). That car would be perfect today. In the rare color photo that Hank loaned me from a few years later you can see it’s medium metallic green, he’s chromed the axle and lakes pipes, added whitewalls, and even changed to white upholstery. But still no headlights or windshield, at least in this street shot. #hanknegley #stanbetz #elmirage #drylakes - @patganahl on Instagram
