Time has always been at the heart of our values and our know-how. Thus, it is no surprise that mythology, the set of ageless legends and stories that connect us all, has inspired our brands. Paul-Emile Rémy Martin was passionate about astrology. In 1870, he chose Chiron, a wise Centaur, tutor of Greek heroes, symbol of both nature and human skills, as his House’s emblem. When Chiron died, he became a constellation; this is why Rémy Martin has its “feet at home, head in the stars”. #time #ourhistory #remymartin - @remycointreau on Instagram

Did you know that some of the earliest stewards of the nation’s national parks were soldiers from segregated black regiments? The national park system came to be after growing concern to preserve the natural landscape, including protecting timber, lakes, wildlife, and the genocidal displacement of native peoples prevailed. However, securing these new parks and vast terrains became a problem. The solution fell to troops stationed at forts and bases located near the parks. In the 1890s, the Buffalo Soldiers, who had fought in the Indian and Spanish American Wars, added park ranger to their titles. and played a critical role in protecting and building the infrastructure of the country’s vast public lands. To provide the much needed security. Approximately 500 Buffalo Soldiers served as Park Rangers at Yosemite, Sequoia and General Grant National Parks, in 1899, 1903 and 1904. Their duties, which were the same as white regiments, included evicting timber thieves, putting out forest fires and building roads and trails. Today we celebrate #blackinnationalparksweek and we commemorate these and other early Park System stewards. #blackinnationalparks #diversity #equity #inclusion #livetheparkslife #history #blackhistory Pictured Below: Buffalo soldiers of the 25th Infantry, some wearing buffalo robes, Ft. Could France really beat Germany in ? The Saar offensive. In 1939, Germany invaded Poland which, according to legend, was abandoned by the British wanting peace at all cost and the French cowards. This is of course false, but there are also reasons why the French did not attack Germany in September 1939. First of all, it should be said that for the possible French attack which will take place in the Saar, only 9 divisions could be liberated, consequence of the total lack of preparation of the French army, both in mobilization and in equipment. When they crossed the German border on September 7, the French, after advancing a few kilometers, came across thousands of mines, bridges and cut trees and other traps. The losses are so important in the minefields that the French are sometimes forced to retreat. The French only fell on abandoned villages where everything important was destroyed and a few German soldiers who inflicted however 2000 losses on the French who only had time to approach the Siegfried line. In mid-September, faced with the weak advance of the units engaged and the situation in Poland, the French high command ordered its troops to fall back behind the Maginot line. We will now see why the French did not rush regardless of the losses towards the interior of Germany. First of all, you have to understand the French strategy. They come out traumatized by the 1st world war and base their strategies on defense, behind the Maginot line which absorbed a significant part of the national budget. It is simply impossible for the French to abandon the Maginot line. In addition, on the German side, the defenses are well organized. The Siegfried line, although less powerful than the Maginot line, is still impressive for the french. Further south, the Rhine river and the mountains of the thick black forest prevent any intrusion. The 22 German divisions of Army Group C under General Van Leeb guarding the French border would have had ample time to delay, with limited assistance from the Siegfried Line, the French offensive, Belgium and the Netherlands being still neutral to the time. May 30, 1806. Future President of the United States, Andrew Jackson, duels Charles Dickinson in Kentucky after Dickinson accused Jackson of cheating on a horse race and insulted Jackson’s wife. In the duel Dickinson would shot Jackson in the chest, and Jackson’s shot would kill Dickinson. The wound Jackson received would heal but the pain would stay with him for the rest of his life. This is one of many duels Jackson would participate in. Some estimates believe that Jackson had done 5 to 100 different duels in his life. _______________ #ushistory #americanhistory #history #usa #american #america #tagafriend #tagsomeone #tagaperson #duel #jackson #horseracing #horserace #killed #kentucky #frontier - @ushistorydaily on Instagram

During the First World War, commercial photographers took pictures of the Canadian Expeditionary Force units before they went overseas. Intended primarily as a visual record for the military, these images were also bought as mementoes by loved ones in Canada. The 2nd Divisional Cyclist Company, which drew men primarily from Toronto, Montreal, Kingston, Vancouver, Winnipeg and Halifax, arrived in France in September 1915. On the battlefield, the cyclists delivered messages or acted in a reconnaissance role. By the late hours of September 2nd, 1885, twenty-eight Chinese American miners lay dead among the smoldering ruins of the Rock Springs, Wyoming Chinatown. Tensions between Chinese and white immigrant miners and the resulting massacre were fueled by local labor groups’ concerted push for a narrative that Chinese miners were taking jobs away from European immigrant laborers. At the time, Union Pacific Coal Mining Company gave the Chinese workers exclusive access to prime mining territories and preference to those that would accept lower wages. For years white miners had been vocal and forceful in their outrage toward the influx of Chinese workers in the United States. Reaching a boiling point, the union miners assaulted the Chinese miner’s settlement, burning seventy-eight houses and shops to the ground, murdering twenty-eight people, and injuring fifteen, throwing some of the wounded into the fires to die. The townsfolk fled for their lives into the hills while all their earthly possessions and businesses burned in the valley below. It was not until a week later that U.S. troops arrived not to condemn those responsible but to safely escort the Chinese miners back to work. President Grover Cleveland asserted that reparations be made to those Chinese whose property was destroyed, and the Union Pacific eventually fired forty-five of the white miners involved in the massacre. However, no legal action was ever taken against the assailants and newspapers showed sympathy toward the white man’s plight of the yellow peril. Every American story needs to be told. Will you help us tell the Chinese American story? Together, we are building a museum not just for Chinese Americans. We’re building a museum for everyone. If you believe that sharing our common history helps to build understanding, acceptance, and unity then consider supporting the new Chinese American Museum in Washington, DC. It’s easy to become part of our family. Contributions at any level help us move our project forward. Support our inaugural build-out and programs while receiving some great benefits too! Today in Black History: Nat Turner led the largest slave rebellion in U.S. history in Virginia in 1831. Turner, and enslaved man and educated minister, planned to capture the county armory with the help of fellow rebels and then march 30 miles to escape their pursuers. He and his followers killed many slave holding whites during the rebellion, which was put down after the state militia was brought in. Many of Nat Turner’s followers were captured and killed immediately, but he escaped and remained at large for weeks. He was ultimately captured on October 30 (pictured above), convicted, and executed. In the wake of the rebellion, angry white mobs tortured and killed hundreds of African Americans, many of whom had no connection to the rebellion. It also led to a new wave of oppressive legislation prohibiting the assembly, movement, and education of enslaved peoples. 📷: Encyclopedia Britannica #todayinblackhistory #natturner #sallieellisdavishouse - @sallieedavis on Instagram
