#FBF My great aunt Mary on her wedding day. Her hand embroidered silk organza gown encrusted with pearls & diamonds as a young child opened a world of beauty & storytelling.The gown was so intriguing. The jewel encrusted dress and veil were displayed in several NYC department store windows - I do not know which ones. As the story goes...Little by little the jewels were removed(zoom in to see them more easily at the bottom folds of the gown) Sadly she was widowed early in her marriage. Els Cavallets dOlot, també coneguts com a cavallins són uns elements del bestiari popular practicats a Olot des de començaments del segle XVII. Estan formats per una estructura lleugera feta de fibra de vidre i roba que simula la forma dun cavall amb un forat al centre, on se situa el cavaller que sosté -a lalçada de la seva cintura- i fa moure lestructura, aconseguint lefecte visual dun cavall amb un genet a sobre. La primera referència olotina sobre cavallets o cavallins és de 1601, quan sesmenta que van participar en la processó per commemorar la canonització de sant Ramon de Penyafort. També nhi ha referència el 1619, quan es feren ballar per commemorar el decret papal de 1617, en què safirmava que la Mare de Déu fou concebuda sens pecat original. No els tornem a trobar fins al 1748, en què participen en la processó organitzada amb motiu de la benedicció del nou temple de la Mare de Déu del Tura. Els programes de les Festes del Tura ens donen les dades dels anys que van sortir: 1859, 1864, 1878, 1879 i, a partir de 1883, cada any, excepte el 1876, i del 1880 al 1882. Els Cavallets que coneixem van sortir al carrer per primera vegada lany 1904 i són obra de Francesc Estorch. El 1990, El Arte Cristiano en va fer una còpia exacta amb fibra de vidre, material menys pesant, ja que els vells pesaven 16 kg. i era difícil trobar balladors. A partir de 1995, els Cavallets han anat renovant la vestimenta i larmament. En aquests darrers anys han estrenat espases; lany 1997 van estrenar uns vestits, confeccionats per Teresa de Bodas a partir de documentació gràfica, amb la idea de recuperar els models que duien a la dècada dels seixanta; i per les Festes del Tura de 1998 han estrenat els cascs. Els Cavallets només ballen per les Festes del Tura. Executen dos balls per parelles, dirigits pel capità, amb una música basada en lòpera de Weber; Der Freischütz (El caçador furtiu). En el primer ball es col·loquen en bateria del dret i del revés, alternativament. El capità els dóna voltes i després dirigeix el ball. En el segon, es col·loquen en rotllana amb el capità al mig. Julia Margaret Cameron (British (born India), Calcutta 1815–1879 Kalutara, Ceylon) When one of Julia Margaret Camerons daughters handed her her first camera she said: It may amuse you, Mother, to try to photograph during your solitude at Freshwater. From that moment, Cameron, forty-eight, took the fun seriously. Cameron, similar to Victorian photographers of the time, in his images imitated popular scenes romantic and pre-Raphaelist paintings. In the particular case of Cameron, his portraits were different, representing that classic universe, through sensitive compositions about female beauty with a more real appearance manifesting human qualities. From that experience, for example, the portraits of Ellen Terry, Alice Pleasance Liddell, the Alice of Lewis Carroll, Julia Jackson, her niece who would be the mother of Virginia Woolf stand out. She was a photographer who in her beginnings book important battles against the purist paternalism of the photographic community of the time that criticizes her work for not being technically perfect, was not sharp, reflected a careless manipulation. Cameron was focused on his speech and used photography as a medium. From that perspective, his work marked a powerful discourse that changed the way people look at girls and women with more natural portraits by showing them disheveled, half dressed, with everyday attitudes with the idea of reflecting more their natures and hers. The last days of Zeenat Mahal: Zafars favorite wife! Begum Zeenat Mahal, the favorite wife of Bahadur Shah Zafar, spent her final days in exile in Rangoon. She, along with Zafar, was made to stay in a square building made of woods containing four rooms- one for Bahadur Shah Zafar, the second for her, and the other two for the family of two of her sons. After Zafar died in 1862, suffering a paralytic stroke, the British government granted her a monthly stipend of Rs. 120. She remained in detention for another 4 years. On 16 June 1866, release orders were issued for her with the condition that she would continue to stay in Rangoon. Her stipend was also increased to Rs 250 per month. Towards the end of her life, after continued requests citing her old age and satisfactory moral character, her stipend was increased to Rs. 500. Zeenat Mahal became an opium addict in Rangoon- her intake being somewhere around 10 grams per day. She had a constant complaint of indigestion causing severe colic attacks. In 1884, she suffered an acute attack and remained ill till November. Never fully recovering, she complained of severe pain on 8 July 1886, and ran high fever for five days continuously, causing her many sleepless nights. On the eighth day, the pulse began sinking and on 17 July 1886, she breathed her last. She was buried alongside Bahadur Shah Zafars grave in accordance with the wishes of her daughter-in-law, Shah Zamani Begum, and grandson, Jamshed Baksh. The Chief Commissioner gave a grant of Rs. 1000 for her funeral. GUERRA DOS EMBOABAS (1709) Ocorreu em Minas Gerais e teve como causa a luta pela posse das minas entre paulistas e Emboabas (forasteiros). Como a descoberta de ouro no Brasil, muitos Portugueses e populações do litoral, que estavam decadentes devido ao declínio da produção açucareira, dirigiram-se para o Sertões de Minas Gerais entrando em conflito com os descobridores das Minas (paulistas) para exploração das jazidas. O primeiro incidente aconteceu entre o paulista Jerônimo Pedroso de Barros e o reino (português) Manuel Nunes Viana, em Caeté. A nomeação do emboaba Manuel Nunes Viana como Governador das minas irritou os paulistas, pois se sentiram lesados, começando, então, violentos choques: atacados pelos Emboabas e chefiadas por Bento do Amaral Coutinho, junto ao Rio das Mortes, depois de resistirem, os paulistas cercados se renderam, mas foram traídos. Foi o episódio do Capão da traição (1708) onde morreram 300 paulistas. O governador do Rio de Janeiro D. Fernando Mascarenhas de Lencastre tentou acabar com a luta, mas não teve êxito (1709). Seu substituto, Antônio de Albuquerque Coelho de Carvalho conseguiu a pacificação. ○ Principais Consequências: - criação de uma nova capitania, a de São Paulo e Minas do Ouro Preto, separada do Rio de Janeiro (09 de novembro de 1709) que passou ao domínio direto da coroa, sendo seu primeiro Governador Antônio de Albuquerque Coelho de Carvalho; - elevação da Vila de São Paulo à categoria de cidade (julho de 1711); - separação entre a capitania de São Paulo e a de Minas Gerais; - transferência do Polo de irradiação de Taubaté para Sorocaba pelos bandeirantes Paulistas; - descoberta de ouro nas regiões de Mato Grosso e Goiás para onde se dirigiram, depois, os paulistas. - @historiadobrasil_oficial on Instagram

Una llegenda de sang i fetge va atemorir els barcelonins. En una de les parets del Carrer de la Flor del Lliri podem veure part d’un arc de mig punt tapiat i la resta d’una arcada que deuria volar sobre el carrer. L’any 1444 està documentat que allà hi va existir l’Hostal Flor del Lliri, un dels més valorats de la ciutat, fins que va ser lescenari dun terrible succés. El Carrer Corders ha estat des de l’època romana una de les vies d’accés a Barcelona, raó per la qual s’hi van ubicar molts hostals. Entre tots els que oferien llit, l’Hostal Flor del Lliri era el preferit, tenia les habitacions més grans i luxoses, i sobretot perquè per menjar sempre tenien unes delicioses mandonguilles a molt bon preu. El que ningú sabia era que alguns dels hostes que hi feien nit, sobretot els més rics, mai més hi sortien. El propietari havia inventat uns llits amb un mecanisme que es plegava i atrapava els hostes! Era llavors quan entrava el porter de lhostal, els assassinava a ganivetades i els hi robava els diners. Però anaven més enllà, l’endemà esquarterava el cos i de la carn en feien les famoses mandonguilles. Finalment, la propietària va decidir acabar amb aquella trama sanguinària. Va advertir a un jove hoste del que li passaria a mitja nit si s’estirava al llit. El jove va quedar despert, amagat, el llit es va plegar i quan va entrar el porter, el jove el va matar. Tots dos van fugir a denunciar el que passava a l’hostal i l’Ajuntament el va decidir tancar per sempre més. Si passeu per davant de l’antic hostal, mireu les pedres, es diu que encara s’hi poden veure les cares de les víctimes de l’Hostal Flor del Lliri. How powerless an emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar was! The Mughal Empire was in a continuous state of decline ever since Aurangzebs death. By the time Bahadur Shah Zafar became the Emperor, his real authority existed only within the walls of the Red Fort. The British Resident (representative of Governor General to the Palace), Sir Thomas Metcalfe, kept a firm eye on Zafar’s daily life and frequently forbade him from exercising rights that the Emperor regarded as sacrosanct. No nobleman from outside Delhi could enter the Red Fort without Metcalfe’s permission. To enforce his right to rent from his own lands, Zafar had to make an application to the British courts. He could not present gems from the crown jewels even to his own family members without first informing the Resident, and was occasionally, humiliatingly, made to ask for the return of unauthorised gifts if the agent came to hear about them. Zafar could not gift khilats (robes of honour, symbols of overlordship) on noblemen from outside the Delhi without Metcalfe’s say-so: when Raja Gulab Singh of Kollesur paid a visit to the court, presenting a nazr (or offering of fealty) of ‘a horse and 7 gold mohurs’, in return for which Zafar gave him a khilat, Metcalfe promptly made the Raja return it. A petition was received from Mirza Shoojat Shah stating that a chief had arrived and was desirous of visiting the Palace. Zafar replied that without the Agent’s permission no chief of a foreign territory could be allowed entrance.
