As early as 4000 years ago, Coast Salish people raised dogs. They were sheared like sheep with mussel shells and the hair was used for weaving. European settlement led to their extinction around 1900. Στα μέσα του 19ου αιώνα άρχισε να αναπτύσσεται το χωριό της Χαλέπας στα ανατολικά της πόλης, έξω από τα όρια των οχυρώσεων. Η περιοχή απέκτησε διακεκριμένη θέση στην ιστορία της Κρήτης με την περίφημη «Σύμβαση της Χαλέπας», που υπεγράφη τον Οκτώβριο του 1878 μεταξύ Οθωμανών και Κρητών και είχε ως αποτέλεσμα την παραχώρηση περιορισμένου αυτόνομου πολιτεύματος στο Νησί. Η οδός Χαλέπας, ο κύριος δρόμος έξω από τα τείχη, σημερινή οδός Ελ. Βενιζέλου, ξεκινούσε προς τ’ ανατολικά των Χανίων κι ήταν δρόμος περιποιημένος και δενδροφυτεμένος με γαλάζιες ακακίες από τα αγροκήπια της Γεωργικής Εταιρείας Γεωργιουπόλεως. Κατέληγε στο πλούσιο αυτό αριστοκρατικό προάστιο και θέρετρο των εύπορων Χανιωτών, τη Χαλέπα, που ήταν σαν ένα μικρό παράρτημα της Ευρώπης. Στη Χαλέπα υπήρχαν κτίρια πολυτελή κι όμορφα, καθώς και τα προξενεία των Μεγάλων Δυνάμεων. Κι ακόμη η σχολή του Σαν Ζοζέφ, όπου οι καλόγριες δίδασκαν στα πλουσιοκόριτσα Γαλλικά και καλή συμπεριφορά, αλλά και η κομψότατη εκκλησούλα της Αγίας Μαρίας της Μαγδαληνής μέσα στους ανθισμένους κήπους. Εδώ ήταν επίσης και η κατοικία του Υπατου Αρμοστή, ο οποίος, στις αρχές του αιώνα, ήλθε σε σύγκρουση με τον Βενιζέλο και τον απέλυσε από Σύμβουλο της Δικαιοσύνης τον Μάρτιο του 1901. Μετά το Κίνημα του Θερίσου το 1905, στο οποίο ως γνωστόν πρωτοστάτησε ο Βενιζέλος, ο Πρίγκηπας Γεώργιος αναγκάσθηκε να εγκαταλείψει το 1906 κάποια νύχτα την Κρήτη, από την ακτή των Ταμπακαριών. Thank you for all the love and support. It’s been a challenging year but there has never been a dull moment. This gent aired out his pecs on Ninth Avenue while waiting for his laundry as the mercury crept above 90 degrees on July 9, 1974. His neighbor went the windowsill route, presumably searching for any whisper of a breeze that might bring relief on the hotter-than-a-match-head day. As for our photographer William E. Sauro, there was no rest for the shutterbug: After capturing these 2 New Yorkers, he made his way up through Manhattan and over to Queens, past hydrants and bridges and eventually to the Astoria Park Pool. Gyms have the safest forms of contact tracing:- Clubs have had COVID management plans in place since March 2020 including compulsory COVID19 staff training undertaken via health.gov.au Gyms have invested thousands $ in their community to keep their members and teams safe, such as COVID19 educational marketing, extra social media costs, installing different streams of hygiene products in house, extra staff for cleaning and the list goes on. We have:- 1.Booking Systems that tell us which zones the member participates in. 2.Membership scanning on the entry gate that provides all personal details including picture i.d! 3. Designated times to avoid overcrowding 4. Participating club rules on entry 5. No casual use Our clubs need to open people need to get back to moving their bodies and feeling mentally healthy before they become a stat in the strained health care system we currently have. I see a COVID tax coming to cope with the destruction caused to business during 2020... If I can shop at a supermarket, get petrol, get my nails done, and swim in a pool....that people probably pee in! US postage stamp. Scott #2838h (1994) World War II - Road to Victory Red Ball Express By August 1944, it was clear the Normandy invasion had been a huge success. Pursuing quickly retreating Germans, the Allied troops had come within 100 miles of Paris. However, the armies faced one basic problem - they had outrun the supply lines linking them to the Normandy beaches. Unless the Allies could bridge the gap separating the supplies in Normandy and the troops, the Germans would have a chance to regroup and Paris would be lost. The solution was the Red Ball Express. Given the railroad nickname for a high-priority shipment, this long-haul supply system operated over a one-way set of roads to deliver bulk supplies each day to Patton’s and Hodges’ Armies. When the express began on August 25th, it provided 75 tons of supplies per day. As the pursuit continued, the effort was expanded to include 5,400 trucks carrying over 8,200 tons each day over round-trip routes of up to 686 miles. By mid-November the critical need for emergency long-haul operations across northern France was over, and the service was disbanded on November 16, 1944. The Real Story of the Burning of Hampton Part 1: Controversy Then and Now On the night of August 7, 1861, Confederate soldiers under Brig. Gen. John B. Magruder destroyed Hampton by methodically setting fires across the town. The conflagration could be seen for miles, shocking Hampton Roads residents and military personnel alike. U.S. Maj. Gen. Benjamin F. Butler, commander of Fort Monroe and U.S. forces in the area, reported that he could not “discern the strategical importance of this movement” and called the burning a “wanton and unnecessary act.” However, Magruder believed burning Hampton would eliminate its “extreme importance” to U.S. forces. Why would Confederates deliberately and violently destroy their own property? Why did Confederates believe burning Hampton was vital to their war effort, while U.S. forces could not identify any strategic motive? Traditionally, the cause of the burning of Hampton is described as an effort to prevent U.S. forces from using the town as winter quarters for troops. However, at the time of the burning, no additional housing was needed for Federal troops stationed nearby, and U.S. Army leaders never had any plans to establish winter quarters at Hampton. Instead, original records show that Magruder’s decision to destroy Hampton stemmed from Butler’s “Contraband” policy and the growing numbers of escaped “Contraband” slaves near Fort Monroe and Hampton. PM Spirits was turned onto @netaspirits when the original street puma @smittysmoov got word from two industry friends -- the first source was a natural wine retailer and the other was on the restaurant side of things -- telling him he had to taste the agave spirits from a new and at the time unheard of cooperative out of Oaxaca. After a few weeks of nudging Leo relented, tasted, and thought, “Wow these are fucking bad-ass!” When @captncognac tasted the stuff, he too knew the juice was special. Calls were made, practicalities sorted, fast forward and we started importing NETA last fall. “NETA” is a slang term that simultaneously asks “for real?” and exclaims “for real.” It is the perfect name considering how real these guys are. The cooperative was established by long time friends @nikinakazawa and @max.karwinskii . Niki comes from a background of art, design and food. She lived in Mexico City and organized many cool restaurant and art pop ups, while Max was in Mexico to learn Spanish. Max soon became friends with a few family producers of agave spirits in Logoche, Miahuatlan where he was welcomed after proving himself to not be some outsider looking to exploit. It’s clear that Max was struck big time by the spirit of the people, the land and the distillate. Like many natural wine producers in France, Italy, Spain (and elsewhere) who decide to forego AOC, DO, DOC laws and their equivalents, NETA has decided to step out of the confines of the CRM (Consejo Regulador del Mezcal – the governing body that set the rules and regulations of regions, permitted agave varieties, certification, and more) and instead label themselves as destilado de agave. We are psyched to have a shipment of new NETA arrivals coming SOON from Paula Aquino Sánchez, Candido García Cruz, Celso García Cruz (all pictured) in addition to new agave spirits from maestros Heriberto García Sánchez and Hugo García. #लालमहाल लालमहाल नक्की कुठे होता कसा होता किती मोठा होता ? लालमहाला सारख्या महत्वाच्या वास्तुचे काय झाले? शनिवारवाडा म्हणजेच लालमहाल का? लालमहाल पाडून तिथे शनिवार वाडा बांधण्यात आला असे एक नाहीतर अनेक प्रश्न गेली कित्तेक वर्ष सर्व शिवपाईकांना पडले आहेत . अत्ता जी लालमहालाची वास्तु आपण बघतो ही नव्याने बांधण्यात आली आहे , मग शिवकालीन लाल महाल नक्की कुठे होता या वर बरेच वाद विवाद होतात. या विषयाचा ब्रिटिश कागदपत्र, Gazette , पुण्याला भेट देऊन गेलेले विदेशी पर्यटक त्यांनी केलेल्या नोंदी आणि ब्रिटिशांनी काढलेले नकाशे याचा अभ्यासपर संशोधन करुन पुढील लेख आपल्या समोर मांडत आहे . ब्रिटिश कागद पत्र अभ्यासत असताना बरेच पुरावे मिळत गेले त्या वरुन लाल महालाची जागा आणि वास्तुचे काय झाले हे निश्चित करता येते, १८८४ मधील पुण्याचा अभ्यास केला तर पुणे शहर १८ पेठांमधे विभागले गेले होते आणि १८ पेठांमधे छोटी मोठी १२२७१ घरे असल्याचे कागद पत्रात उल्लेख दिसतो . या १८ पेठांमधील कसबा पेठे ही लाल महालाच्या विषया साठी महत्वाची आहे . १) . १८९५ मधील फोटोग्राफ असलेल Glimpses of India हे J.H furneaur , C.B Burrows यांनी लिहिलेल्या पुस्तकात महत्वाचे पुरावे मिळतात यात लेखकाने नमुद केल्या प्रमाणे अंबरखान्याचे जुने नाव लाल महाल आहे , सध्या येथे हत्तीच्या अंबारी ठेवल्या जातात , त्यातील काही भाग अजुन ही आहे तळमजल्या वरील खोली त्याच्या भिंती कमी अधिक जाडिच्या आहेत .बाकीचे अवशेष विस्कळीत झाले आहेत , पाया अजुन आहे त्या वरुण त्याचे आकारमान ठरवता येते . २ ). तसेच The Land of the Rupee लेखक Bennett Coleman त्याच्या १९१२ मधे प्रकाशित झालेल्या पुस्तकात ही अंबरखाना हाच लाल महाल आहे असा उल्लेख लेखक करतो . ३) . या नंतर Poona, the peshwas city and its Neighbourhood लेखक Herbert Andrew Newell याच्या १९१८ मधील प्रकाशित पुस्तकात दिलेल्या माहिती वरुण आपल्याला लाल महालाची जागा लक्षात येते , यात लेखक उल्लेख करतो की पेशवे पैलेस ( शनिवार वाडा) च्या पूर्व बाजुला Elephant Gate ( गणेश दरवाजा ) च्या समोरील बाजुला चालत गेले की रंगीबेरंगी फुले असलेली आणि मोठी झाडे आहेत हीच लाल महालाची जागा आहे , नंतर या जागेला अंबरखाना म्हणुन ओळखले जात तेथे हत्तिची अंबारी ठेवली जात. उर्वरित लेख कमेंट मध्ये आहे👇 - @rajgad_sanvardhan_mohim on Instagram

Habt ihr eine Idee, woher der doch eher ungewöhnliche Name „Müßiggengel“-Zunfthaus kommt? | Müßiggänger - so wurden im Volksmund die reichen Patrizier und Mitglieder dieser Zunft genannt, da sie keiner schweren Arbeit nachgehen mussten. 🔎 Serie 4: ...de alcohol y muertes. En Haría se produjeron varias muertes “extrañas” a principios de 1963. 📍En aquella época, María Elisa Álvarez Obaya era la Inspectora Farmacéutica Municipal y sospechó que podía tratarse de una intoxicación por metanol debida al consumo de aguardiente. A pesar de la oposición de muchas personas (la farmacéutica era una mujer y no era especialista en la materia) y con el apoyo del equipo municipal, María Elisa inmovilizó los productos sospechosos requisados en comercios y bares de la zona (procedían de las bodegas Lago e Hijos, de Vigo). 🔬Con los escasos medios de los que disponía, la farmacéutica estudió los contenidos de las garrafas de ron incautadas, comprobando la presencia de metanol. Posteriormente, se realizaron minuciosas investigaciones en todo el estado, analizando licores y otras bebidas. El juicio por este fraude alimentario tuvo lugar a finales de 1967, cuatro años después de las primeras muertes y casos de ceguera. Once personas fueron condenadas por su participación en este delito. 🎖María Elisa fue distinguida por la Real Academia de Farmacia y por el Ayuntamiento de Haría con la Medalla Carracido. In 1922, Lombard Street was under construction as seen here. after it was determined that the 27% grade of the hill was too steep for most vehicles, and even pedestrians. The switchbacks were designed to increase the ability to travel safely on Lombard, the one way street was paved with red bricks in its now-famously crooked fashion, and a recommended speed limit of 5 mph was established. The street name Lombard actually has no link to San Francisco history. It is named after a street in Philadelphia. Lombard isn’t actually the most crooked street in the world – in fact, it’s not even the most crooked street in San Francisco. That honor belongs to Vermont Street in the Potrero Hill neighborhood where it has 1 extra turn. Special thanks to the SF Public Library for allowing us to repost the photo from their collection. Why was Napoléon III so keen to renovate Paris in the 19th century? For starters, the center of the city was unhealthy and overcrowded. In working class neighborhoods like the Quartier des Arcis in the 3rd arrondissement, there was 1 inhabitant for every 3 square meters. This same neighborhood is depicted in this iconic c. 1853 photograph by Charles Marville. Since few of his images depict actual people, they offer a nostalgic view of pre-Haussmann Paris, without its social problems. The narrow street shown here was later destroyed to make way for an extension to Rue Rivoli.
