Cruiser MK 1 A9 light tank Cruiser tank Mk 1 adalah sebuah tank jelajah ringan buatan inggris pada awal perang dunia 2. Asal muasal tank ini berawal dari tahun 1936, dimana kantor perang inggris menetapkan dua jenis tank untuk pengembangan masa depan. Tank infanteri, digunakan dalam kerja sama erat dengan infanteri selama serangan. Tank jelajah cepat yang dirancang untuk melakukan perampokan jauh ke dalam wilayah musuh. Pada tahun 1934 perusahaan vickers armstrong diminta menyediakan tank yang murah. Desain dikenal dengan spesifikasi staf umum A9. Model contoh desain tank selesai pada tahun 1936 dan diberi nama A9E1. Tank ini menggabungkan beberapa fitur seperti turret yang terletak di tengah. Ditenagai mesin bensin komersial dan permukaan lapis baja banyak berbentuk vertikal. Kompartemen pengemudi dan tempur tidak dipisahkan dan ada dua menara kecil di kedua sisi kompartemen pengemudi. A9E1 diuji dengan desain tank lain dan berhasil bertahan sebagai juara dan diterima untuk diproduksi pada tahun 1937. 125 tank dipesan oleh tentara inggris. Tank ini efektif dalam kampanye Prancis, Yunani, dan Afrika Utara. Pistol 2 Pdr efektif melawan tank Italia dan panzer jerman. Yaitu panzer II hingga panzer IV. Namun semenjak datang panzer IV ausf E pistolnya tidak terlalu efektif lagi. Meskipun efektif tank ini begitu rentan dengan senjata anti tank musuh dan treknya pun memiliki masalah mekanis yang serius apalagi kebanyakan pelat bajanya tipis dan datar sehingga mudah ditembus. Photographed here at Flying Legends in 2019, sad to report that a month ago this beautiful aircraft had to make a forced landing on a routine flight from Duxford Aerodrome, crashing into a field and then hitting trees at some speed after suspected engine failure. Mercifully neither the pilot nor his passenger were badly injured, but the aircraft sustained considerable damage, the fuselage breaking in two just forward of the pilot’s seat. Whether she will ever fly again and live up to her ‘Invincible’ nickname is open to question – it’s always so tragic when these precious aircraft are lost. Let’s hope she can be restored and rebuilt. The Hurricane Mk I with 768-kW (1,030-hp) Rolls-Royce Merlin II and an armament of eight 7.7-mm (0.303-in) machine-guns was Fighter Commands principal fighter in the Battle of Britain in 1940, and destroyed more enemy aircraft than all other defences combined. Adhering to Grummans design philosophy to produce an aircraft in which a pilot could become proficient in a short period of time, and that was easy to operate from a carrier yet could outperform the enemy, the Hellcat was loved by its pilots. Hellcat pilots achieved an amazing 19:1 kill ratio, downing 5,156 enemy aircraft in just two years. The Hellcat ranked at the top in most categories, making it one of the best fighters in the war. 30 September 1940 Oberleutnant Karl Fischer’s Bf109E-1 (Wn.4851 9+) of 7./Jagdgeschwader 27, after a forced landing near Queen Anne’s Gate, Windsor Great Park, Berkshire. The plane is subject to eager attention from the RAF salvage gang. The mission was a bomber escort. When the formation was on its way to the objective it was attacked by fighters (possibly Hurricanes from 303 Squadron), this aircraft getting into a dog fight. The combat was broken off and the pilot thought that he had not been hit. However an R/T message from his wingman told the pilot that he had a white petrol plume streaming behind and looking at his petrol gauge he noticed that the tanks were almost empty, so he made a forced landing. There were a number of bullet strikes from astern. (The pilot was captured and survived unhurt) Markings: 9 painted on yellow engine cowling. Spinner white, with black circle on tip.
