Jess and I first met in Thailand on the island of Koh Phangan in 2016 while jess was living and volunteering at a hospital for stray animals. I came in one day to build a pig pen for the shelter’s resident pig, Piggy Smalls, and we fell completely in love! Not just with each other but with the island itself. We spent our days riding around the island exploring all of its dirt roads and hidden view points. Eating at street food stalls and developing lasting friendships with the locals of the island. Ever since first meeting in 2016, we have been bouncing around the world. Mainly because we love to travel, but also just to be together. Being from different countries is challenging, with visas preventing us from living together long term but we get to experience and explore so much of the world together. despite the challenges, it’s been the adventure of a lifetime! From having our first proper home together in Australia, to jungle homes in Asia. From road tripping around the east coast of the USA in Jess’s car. To living vanlife on the roadsides of England. To exploring the mountains of Central Europe to sleeping under the stars in the Thar desert in India. Every day is different, it’s the life we want a life of adventure, exploration and love. Since meeting Jess my world has definitely changed. I would have never thought that a chance meeting at an animal hospital on a thai island would have led to where we are now. I have experienced so much with Jess and it’s only brought us closer together. FINE, I’M NOT SCARED. Let’s talk about Menopause. One thing I failed to mention in the last post describing my absence from social media this past month. Yep, it’s happening. 🙈 I still feel like a kid, how could this be happening to me? I mean, I barely consider myself a full blown adult most days. The end of March saw the last day Aunt Flo decided to grace me with her presence. I’ve been telling my Gyno for years I think I am peri (pre)menopausal . She thought I was a tad young when I started “crying wolf” at 41, but she said it “could be” possible. So what’s it like? I’ve had acne worse than my teenage years, gaining weight and losing has become more difficult than ever to try and navigate coupled with fatigue, and moodiness. Ahh the joys of womanhood. Meanwhile, I thought I was pregnant for a minute. Or maybe stress? Or maybe just quarantine weight? I mean didn’t everyone gain weight over quarantine? Of course With the exception of you disciplined new Peleton bike owners and freaks of nature like my sister who work out everyday. I mean I knew my opportunity for having children’s window had been slowly closing for awhile. It’s like someone just finally decided to slam the window on my finger while I was trying to keep it somewhat ajar. My mom’s offer to “freeze my eggs” over a decade ago haunting me after I turned her down. I thought she was crazy. In hindsight It makes much more sense. Mom knew I would be a late bloomer. What now? Stay tuned. With everything that has been going on I haven’t had a chance to get to my gynecologist this summer. I can’t wait to tell her “I told you so!” Personally I haven’t heard anyone talking about this (Makes sense, the over 40 group travel community is a much smaller group here) so feel free to comment if you want to know more or could enlighten me about this new journey my body is taking me on. Join me in my menopause diaries...kidding. This is One of the big reasons I felt a little overwhelmed lately. Oh my, it’s almost been a month since my last post here. To be honest, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying being off the social content grid. At the beginning of this quarantine, back in March, I made a plan with myself as to what I wanted to get out of my time in quarantine. My answer was a break. Time off from creating, and to just enjoy other things. I’ve been creating content pretty non-stop since 2006, on youtube, then every other social media platform as they appeared. It’s been a lot. Now I’m not saying I’m burnt out or anything, I’ve learnt the art of pacing content creation many years ago. But it’s been nice to slow down and not force out content just for the sake of keeping up with the “algorithm”. I started posting content back in 2006 because I wanted too, and I’ll keep posting the content I want , when I want, for as long as I want. What does that mean for you? Well lucky ducks, summer in Canada is short, beautiful and gosh darnit Im taking advantage of it. We’re in the process of filming a whole bunch of westfalia videos, plus TRAVEL vlogs, omg, around our home province of BC.
